So long as he doesn't go riding top-down in a motorcade through Texas, he should be fine.

So several swing states on the map means a "landslide" now?

To me, that usually means neither candidate really wowed America.

At any rate, have fun believing a different president changes everything.

Doesn't change anything for me living north of the border, to be honest I just wanted to beat malacite to the punch.

I just realized I know nothing about the candidates who will be up for taking his seat in the Senate.

It's more due to the huge division in the country than anything else. And that division is mostly based in ignorance and fear-- people who have done no research on the candidates and such. Unfortunately, given the way that news agencies want monies, they're not likely to encourage people to go out and actually attempt to educate themselves anytime soon.

But it is possible for Obama to get a landslide, it's just not TOO likely to happen. See

Anyway, I'm personally waiting until it's officially over before I start celebrating. It wouldn't be the first time that an election has been stolen, nor would it be the first time that the democrats managed to fuck themselves out of victory through apathy.

Might be good to go find that out.

I think apathy is what's going to lose the Democrats an opportunity here in NC. Sure, Obama and Biden made a few pit stops here, but they were not nearly as aggressive as McCain/Palin for this state.

                    This.

Obama likes to talk about big changes, but really, some things might change, but I don't see it really affecting me, the lower class unemployed single mother. It sucks, but it's the truth. I have yet to notice significant change in the way I've lived my life just because of who the President is.

Truer words have not yet been spoke. I know my last post made it seem like I'm sure of the outcome, but even my breath is bated until the Electoral College results.

                        Re: Congrats Barrack Obama

Well, I doubt they really care TOO much about NC. If they win NC, it helps of course, but any scenario in which they win NC is already probably over 300 EV for them. What they probably intended (and from the sounds of your comment, likely achieved) was to force McCain/Palin to defend the state, instead of trying to reclaim territory.

Which is part of the campaign which if they win (I think it will, but again, no celebrations yet) is absolutely genius, and if they lose a giant waste of resources and opportunity. The 50-state strategy opened up a lot of places that democrats wouldn't have been looking at otherwise; Indiana and Virginia, but also even places like Montana, Georgia, and North Dakota. I watched a few moment of Fox News earlier (Hey, what I was watching was on commercials!) and they had some politician (the governor I believe, but I didn't quite catch it) from Mississippi saying that Barack Obama would not win that state-- and I could only sit there thinking 'People are actually saying there's a chance that Obama wins MS?'

This is huge because not only does it make the Republican campaign stretch itself incredibly thin (which is where Obama's win being very safe instead of hopeful comes from) to win the current election, but it could also well be a huge change in the electoral map. Especially if Obama performs well in his first term, it could turn the country blue in a big way. We're already starting to see the Obama campaign boosting local races in this election, such as senate seats.

Though, I do think that the future of the Republican party is far more interesting than the future of the Democratic party. Especially if Palin runs in 2012. I'm going to be very amazed if they somehow manage to hold on to both moderate voters AND the ultraconservative. And the Libertarian party seems to be gaining a bit of influence too, although I don't think they're even as big as the greens yet. It seems to me like the GOP is either going to have to dump the ultra-religious part of the party or die out in the future. Plus the Republican brand has been so damaged in the past eight years that I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of moderate Republicans started jumping ship (also see conservative Obama endorsements) to help their own political ends.

These are also the main reasons why I'm looking forward to the results of the Franken/Coleman race, the Georgia, Montana, Missouri presidential races, and Prop. 8; I think they may give us some insight into the future of politics in this country.

There are things more important than your personal life. Imagine, for example, how differently 9/11 and its aftermath would've been with Gore in office. Or the economy. The president might not write you a check or toss you on the street personally, but their choices have consequences. Everyone who has a loved one in the armed forces should realize this. Of course we're all probably going to keep on keepin' on regardless of who becomes president, but the quality of life could differ greatly. Imagine the difference between a president who would neglect education funding, and one who would put huge amounts of money into it. One may be a waste of money and cause economic and budgetary problems, the other may harm or even condemn our children. The idea that the President can make the sun shine and make crops more plentiful is of course not true, but the idea that a President is completely meaningless is also completely untrue.

                          (1) Election's not over, but it's looking good for Obama.

                          (2) Fixed the spelling of Barack Obama's name in the thread title.

                          (3) If you have not already done so, Americans, get out there and VOTE!

Went this afternoon and lines weren't bad at all. I think a lot of people here knocked it out this morning.
and seriously, voting is worth it to see the little old ladies who are has happy as can be at volunteering to be there. Wish I liked my job half as much as they like doing that.
