  • What Resolution can your PC run FFXI at?

My PC can run at the average Resolution, and with weather effects on, I really don't know how to check it sense I can't get on yet, I know this because I did the bench mark thing on playonline.com. But, how are you to check to see if your PC can handle high, medium, or low resolution? Also, how high is your resolution? Does it work for you? Don't be afraid to show some pics of your in game screen shots too! (I just want to see how cool the game looks on high and low resolution.)

I run FFXI with a screen resolution set to my monitor's native res which is 1440x900. I run the background resolution slightly higher at 2000x2000.

Here's a shot of me waiting at the docks in Nashmau (I think):

Second one is a little blurry. Dunno why. Obviously those are resized images so you'll have to 'view image' to see the whole thing.

Mine can run the game higher than this, but I run in an 1152x864 window, with a 2304x2304 background resolution. I do this because 1) while one of my monitors is widescreen, I find a 4:3 ratio is just more comfortable for me with my eyes constantly moving from chat log to HP/MP bars and 2) this size fits on either of my monitors (1440x900 & 1280x1024). I only switch the window between them occasionally, but still.

To find out what you can run at with a comfortable frame rate, you just try different settings until you find what you like.

My monitor runs 1650x1040 or something like that, but I have the BG resolution tweaked to 2048x2048 and the game is gorgeous!

Re: What Resolution can your PC run FFXI at?

On my main computer, I run mine at 1280x1024 for both the overlay and the background resolution. Tried kicking the BG res up back in the day to 2560x2048 but the game got pissed at me and everything was herky jerky, so that was that.

As for effects, I turn off the weather because that just murders my frame rate, and I take a lot of vids and such with fraps so I just deal with whatever settings can get me a pretty solid 29 fps. Other settings such as clipping plane, etc I leave at standard.

On my media center (which is a little slower and mainly functions as a vent/file server and web browser most of the time) I run at 1366x768 for both overlay and BG res connected to my 32" LCD in my living room. It's a little jerky in Lower Jeuno and Aht Urhgan and such, but I don't really play on it unless we're doing a lan party type thing, or just using it to show somebody something in the game in a more comfortable environment. Game looks great on the TV, just need to upgrade the hardware and I may use it more for regular playing ^^

Other than that, only other thing I have is my laptop, which runs at 1440x900, but never really play on that unless I'm travelling. I really should at least log on once in a while though, always forget for months, then I get where I'm going, and have a bajillion updates to do lol...

Anyways, unless you really want to have weather effects, I'd turn them off. They seem to kill my framerate much more than seeing the sand and snow blowing around is really worth, at least in my opinion ^^
