The carrying of knives in a public place and or an offensive weapon (which would include a tire iron) is against UK law and a prisonable offense. It is illegal to own a knife (with the exception of a kitchen knife) with a blade longer than 2" and illegal toc arry a flicknife in a public place. You also have to be 18 before you are allowed to purchase a kitchen knife or sharp bladed object.

And Taskmage, the artical said he pepered the door of the house and hit her with bullets through this. with her safely inside the house and him outside, a rock, tire iron or knife would not have killed her.

              2 inches?
So I guess camping isn't an option.
Who's to say he wouldn't have gone about killing them another way? Obviously the guy wanted to kill them, he's going to find a way to do it.

Yes, but if he doesn't have a gun, they have more chance of fighting back. How do you fight back against someone with a gun?!

Actually, it made it sound like she was outside. The one inside was the mother that was mentioned a couple times.

I figured you'd be pretty adept at handling a 2" tool.

And yet people still get stabbed and beaten don't they? Criminals commit crimes, telling one it's illegal to carry something won't make them not carry a weapon. Just like saying they shouldn't kill people would stop them from actually killing people.

Re: I can't comprehend this one...

The guy left the scene, then returned with a weapon to commit the crime. To think that throwing a little breaking and entering in front of a person who has already decided to murder someone is almost as naive as to say that there wouldn't have been a tragedy if only the weapon used was illegal.

And seriously? You're not allowed to carry a tire iron in a public place? So it's illegal to change your own tire in the UK without first pushing your car back to your private residence?

Kudos on the law against purchasing knives before 18 though. I bet that's really effective in keeping those items out of the hands of dangerous individuals like the 19 year old in question.

She was outside for the first encounter and inside for the shooting. Still, if he hadn't thought "as soon as I get back with a gun" right after he thought "I'mma kill this bitch" he could have smashed her head on the pavement then and there and made for a much shorter article. Oooh, maybe we should outlaw pavement.

No, no, I've got it! Even better! If we can keep people from killing people with guns by outlawing guns, and we can keep people from killing people with knives by making you be 18 to buy them, think of how many lives could be saved just by outlawing killing people!

                            Oh, wait.

Compare the data on murder rates in cities.... The us has 8 cities with the highest murder rates per 100,000 citizens in a comparrison of US cities vs european cities in the top 10 worst cities. Having these laws does not eradicate crime, but it helps reduce it significantly.

Do you have data on what the levels of criminal violence in Europe were before the implementation of gun laws, or are you making an ad hoc ergo propter hoc argument?
