I'm not sure whether I should be more happy about him taking the "get off my lawn" vote away from McCain or concerned about him taking the MySpace vote from Obama.

But either way, I think we can all agree on one thought: "Oh, for fucks sake, Ron Paul supporters again".

He won't win(which is a good thing) but I still hope he accumulates a small amount of support. Just to prove the two-party system isn't infallible. Somewhere around 10-15(maybe 20)% would be good. Hopefully he takes most of the support form McCain.

He knows he isn't going to win, but he'll be happy if he can consistently show that third party candidates aren't irrelevant to the system, and so will I.

How third parties are treated by the media, as well as Democrats, Republicans and governments on a state level is absolutely disgusting. The attitude is "Be Republican or Democrat or GTFO."

In my brief stint as a reporter, I got to know people from a local Green Party and learned what the state of North Carolina did to prevent Nadar from getting on the ballot. They met all the requirements to get him on the ballot, petitions sent in on time and everything.

State claimed it missed the deadline, it got there well before the deadline. Ugly truth of the matter was NC State Government didn't want him on the ballot, they just wanted Bush and Gore. This sentiment was again reflected when he wasn't allowed to enter the debate at Wake Forest in 2000.

This is why I have very little faith in the notion that my vote is my voice, since my vote can only be Republican or Democrat in order to be considered legit. Not to mention the concept of the Electoral College also undermines the voice of every voter as it is. A bunch of people we don't know that are appointed by people we did vote for can potentally overturn a whole collection of votes with thiers on thier own whimsy. Fun way to pick a prez.

Tell me, who thought that was such a great idea? We should at least know who each of these people are.

Kitten: You do have a point, of course, but you do have to remember that when the system was set up, US was trying it's hardest to get away from the Big Government it had lived under for so long. This process helps in doing that, by giving more power to the small states, ensuring that they are heard even among a few very large states.

However, with that being said, times do change. I have been in favor of a straight national populous vote since I've been able to vote, if not before. It's just so much nicer to know FOR SURE who would have won an election, you know, the day after instead of waiting for 3 weeks while people crunch the individual numbers to see who won the college.
