Viva... ...Las Vegas???

Well, as I post this, I'm about to start week 3 of no FFXI in Las Vegas. It all started with the realization that the Las Vegas Hilton is gay and won't let one hook up a 360 to their TVs, thus negating my only option for "portable" FFXI. Furthermore, I've been unable to contact my LS (Armada of Cerberus) to let them know why I haven't appeared online in NA times for the first time ever.

Also, I haven't been able to say hi to any of yall in a while, and I've been catching up on the updates just today. So far, I'm liking what I'm seeing, just kinda bummed I can't hang with anyone online.

Making money is fun and all, but the casinos are kinda played atm. Tryin to go out and do shows is nice, but the work schedule here doesn't really lend itself to going out nightly here in Sin City, unfortunately.

Well, just about a week or so more, and I'll be making my way back to Japan. If any of yall DiVers are in Vegas, let me know, and let's make the most of my last week in the States for the next 6 months.

Wha... what? What the hell is wrong with that Hotel? Did you talk to management? That seems like an incredibly stupid decision. If nothing else, decline room service, and don't mention it to them.

Anyway, if you haven't already, check out the Star Trek Experience. Nerdy? Yes. Awesome as hell? Yes. PROTIP: While you're walking from the transporter to the bridge, check out the labels on the walls.

And yes, I have indeed talked to management. No dice. Seems I'm SoL for the next week. Room service and all associated crap is on the government bill, so I'm not too terribly worried.

Oh well. Perhaps I'll check out the Blue Man Group while I'm here. Fun Times I hear. I've already seen Bite, and that was a pretty good show.

actually, I just checked Wikipedia; I was lucky enough to catch Siegfried & Roy just a few months before the accident, which would put it in summer 2003.

so it's been a little while. Also, I thought this was common knowledge, but I live in Kansas. It sucks. hard.

but uh, you might want to reconsider your guidelines for how much knowledge a local would have? Because noticing one cool little thing on a tourist attraction isn't exactly what I would consider insider knowledge.

Hello, I'm new this site and to FFXIO. I was just browsing the forums looking for a nice place to make my first post and I found this. You see I live in Vegas and I can agree with you that the Hilton does suck! Anyway you say you play on the 360? If that is the case there is 2 Xbox 360 lounges in town. Grab a phone book or google them. Sorry I don't have the exact locations cuase I'm a SONY guy. Just trying to help and enjoy the rest of your stay here in HOT as hell Vegas!

Yes, it's sucky, but it also makes sense from a hotel owner's standpoint. They don't want you messing with the TV set because they're worried that you might inadvertently screw it up for the next guest without visibly damaging it. Maids aren't TV repairmen, if you screw up those connectors in the back, they probably won't know it's broken until long after they have no way of collecting damages from you.

Oh, and in the realm of sightseeing, try to get on the Eiffel Tower model around the same time as the Bellagio does its watershow in the evening. From up there the show looks fantastic. I was on about 6 scotches at the time, but I still remember that one.

Not sure what is exactly happening at the Fan Faire, as I'm here on orders for some training out of Nellis AFB that my unit is doing. Some Star Trek convention just ended as well, so that was kinda weird seeing a bunch of Federation uniforms about, as well as a Klingon or two roaming about. Now the Federation uniforms are being replaced by a bunch of Sony-related shirts, so I'm guessing that's for that Fan Faire.

Yeah, I gathered that the main reason I couldn't hook up the 360 was from the managers not wanting you to get a bunch of free entertainment that you brought with you, and spend your cash on their entertainment. Kinda bunk, if you ask me, but I suppose it's better than billeting on base. Can't complain too much, I'm getting paid $61 a day just to stay at the Hilton, and I was getting about $110 a day to stay in Hawaii for a few days on the way over, so that's not too bad.

Wednesday seems to be the big day our section of the shop (Weapons) will be hitting up this strip bar (no, not Scores, but I hear that place is legendary in its own way) that's supposedly having this "Amateur's Night", so that'll be something to look forward to.

Oh yeah, there's like 2 or 3 Cirque de Soliel shows going on atm (Ka, Zumanity, some others); I might catch one of them sometime if I get the chance. I also still wanna catch Blue Man Group while I'm here too.

Most importantly, the 20th of this month is when the Air Force announces this cycle's Staff Sergeant results, and with a 43.75% promotion rate, I'm thinking I have a good shot at making NCO this year. Which will feel weird, having been in the Airman ranks for so long. Oh well, prolly about time I moved up anyways.

Anyways, so much for this bit of update-like stuff from me. I'll be in touch, seeing as I can't get on the game (woe be unto me). Deuces.

From my understanding, hotels in vegas don't want you to spend time in the rooms, they make more money when you're out on the floor. But the not screwing up connections things could also be a reason for no Xbox connection as well. But I do know that when I visited texas one time, I had no problem getting my PS2 plugged in, and it certainly wasn't a small hotel.

As for bein in vegas, I don't live there but I do know a guy who played FFFXI, on Cerberus, who does! Dunno how that helps you though, but it's more of a "just saying" thing.

And speaking of Cerby, if you need to contact anyone there, just gimme their name and what you're doin exactly and I'll pass the message on.

There is a dive hotel right across from the main gate at Nellis, I think its an econolodge - anyway I've always been able to hook my 360 up there and they have wireless as well, when we go to LV to visit my Dad and stuff
