Laziness indeed. When I was newly married we couldn't afford a house. We lived in an apartment in a large complex and our "outside" was a small balcony. Grills were not allowed on them for fire purposes so what else could I use it for? Thats right, a garden. Here is how I grew some of the vegetables:

Others were more traditional and in regular planters. The only thing I had to make sure of was to let the people living below us know that I was going to be watering plants in the early morning. They didn't mind since it was dry by the time they wanted to use their patio. I also would share some of my "crop" with them.

This thread is making me want to start a garden.

I eat lots of vegetables but I'm constantly being disappointed by the quality of the stuff I buy... imported crap...

My favorite is a home grown tomato in a BLT sandwich......well back in the day when I could eat the B. Compost is absolutely a MUST and not the crap you can buy in a bag from Home Depot either! Do it yourself or get it from a garden center that will sell it by the bushel.

Go for it mate, you save a few pennies for yourself, but also your doing your bit for the environment (no cabon miles for growing your own) but also its an achievement to yourself to be partly self sustainable.

So here's my question about LA's plan:
They're saying stuff like Subway would still be allowed since they don't put their food under a heat lamp, etc. But not all of subway is healthy, in fact, quite a lot of it is unhealthy. Are they going to force Subways in the area to start carrying a much more limitied menu? Like only the 6 or so subs that they advertise as being healthy? Are they going to force them to nolonger sell their meatball subs?
