Greed is the reason socialism cannot work. Power and wealth is centralized, which will immediately attract the greedy to the government. In the free market, power is decentralized and shared by every individual; if a person is to satisfy his greed, he has to at least provide a beneficial good or service.
And are you saying that socialism is preferable to combat 'greed'? It is immoral for me to care about my comfort first and foremost, but moral (or, at least, less immoral) to forcibly confiscate the money I earn in the workplace? I'd say that's why many people think socialism is bad-they want to do what they want to do and keep the fruits of their labor.
Regardless, who are you-or any of us-to deem what does and not does not qualify as a successful/'complete' life? If someone will only die happy with thirteen lamborghinis in the garage, or with a fully decked out WoW character, or the complete collection of Britney Spears' work, so be it. But I will say that modern consumerism, though partly due to the far higher quality of life we enjoy thanks to the free market, is not the intended result of real capitalism. Saving is what drives an economy forward, but our system encourages debt and provides for bad investment.

No. I am saying that the fact that we still have greed in anyone but small children and the insane is absolutely pathetic. The fact that you think that our entire civilization ought be based around it would be incredibly depressing if I hadn't already delt with much of the same.

You're confusing wealth distribution with theft. And no, caring about you and yours is perfectly natural; just not at the expense of everyone else. Personally, while I don't think wealth is going to be at all relevant in a century or so (when technology such as robotics and AI can cover pretty much any human occupation, there won't be anything for us to do; or anything we can't just ask them to make for us), speaking in modern terms I favor a system that provides a good quality of life to all, and encourages people to do better (for example, by giving people who do more demanding jobs or jobs that require higher education more money, much as things are now) by giving them REASONABLE rewards.
That said, no government (to my knowledge) has been able to provide a comfortable life for all of its citizens, through any economic system. I still much prefer governments that try, however.
At least the US government actually gets stuff done... good lord someone PLEASE kill off the Bloc and the NDP...
You can stop your American masturbation there. The differences between Canada and the US are essentially all theoretical and don't exist in the real world.

Try living here for a while and then tell me that.
