When we were in Applebee's and I took a picture of him, I thought about posting on the forums about our ordeal. I looked at the picture I took of him in Best Buy and decided I was going to post it. Then I looked at it again and thought "You know whats going to happen when you post it. Some bugger is gonna say something about him being wet and seeing his nipples like in a wet t-shirt contest, I bet!..................probably FEBA!" Well you did bring up the wet t-shirt contest Feba! LOL


We only got 1/3 of the basement done today. It's kind of hard with little grandkids running amok so its going to take a while. There was one HUUUUUUUUUUGE disappointment I didn't think about when I saw the flood. Because the grandkids moved in, some of our things had to be put in storage or in the basement. Well in the basement, I put my album collection. My albums....My....My....Beatles White album..... I was doing fine and not letting it get to me but when I saw the ruined albums...especially my White album...I busted out crying. All those years of no flooding problems and 4 months after I move them in the basement it happens.

In houston county MN, near La Crosse i think there's evacuations going on due to some flooding from all the rain yesterday and today. The recent weather has been very crazy.

I'm prolly wrong but i remember hearing recently or earlier that scientists discovered that the earth has been shifted off its axis by a degree or so...I think i recall hearing that around the end of winter on the news trying to explain the oddly long winter.

But i'm sorry about your loss...it sucks to lose things of value may it be personal or cash value whatever...it just sucks. I remember i lost my mint star wars episode 4,5 and 6 childrens read along books with the records in a fire a few years ago. yeah they had cash value in the thousands but more importantly personal worth that will never be replaced...maybe one day those star wars watches from burger king will hold the same place in my heart as those records did... lol >.>

There's been 2 storms here in Wisconsin in the last 2 days, and it's due to keep raining until... next week even, if the weather forecast holds true. I know today's storm didn't really his Minnesota at all, it came north-east from Iowa, though it is possible it could have hit the La Crosse area. I didn't watch anything yesterday except lightning strikes and the blur of windshield wipers, so I couldn't tell you what that storm did.

And, mom... damn. Makes me wonder just a little bit if there's any kind of insurance or compensation you might be able to get for what you lost. The most expensive thing in my room, or in my possession for that matter, and beyond my computers, are my 15,000 card M:tG collection, which is probably worth several thousand dollars if I went to the market right now. Makes me want to run down to Menards or Fleet Farm and buy a gigantic water/fire-proof safe to lock stuff in to.

Well tomorrow I get to call the insurance guy. I just have this sick feeling that its not going to be covered. I remember when we were talking about insurance with him, he seemed to think we didn't need flood insurance. I can't remember if we agreed or not and my file cabinet was in the basement because the grandkids got the spare room so many of our documents were ruined also.

I have a large card collection also in big rubbermaid bins that are in the basement. Of course, they are in the area that still has water and we haven't gotten to it yet so I don't know how much of the collection has survived. Also many many game systems, games, accessories, etc are in bins down there too and still in the part we can't reach. If we don't have flood insurance, this is going to be a bitter pill to swallow thats for sure.

I need to design you a new house, with all the flooding we had last year in June, not one of my buildings flooded, mainly because of the strict tanking we have to put in and every basement having a drain gulley with a submersible pump.

If their are any rare beetles albums you have lost give em the titles, my friend is selling his record collection and has had buyers from all over the world, he may have the white album still. now i don't know about the insurance over in the US, but we have insurance called building and contents insurance. This covers the fabric of the building and anything inside (things over £500 you have to declare) this includes flood damage unless specifically says it doesn't in your policy. With the weather as it is flooding, lightning damage and earthquake protection is required (yes we had a 5.4 this year remember)

One of my last 2 weeks as a firefighter we were dealing with the flooding incidents, in fact as a fireservice because of the future predictions we now have a fleet of specialist vehicles and rescue boats.

Fire safety talks/ smoke detector installation.
assisting Navy and coastguard with ship fires (Marine Incident support teams)
Pumping out after floods
the list goes on....

In fact only 2 out of 6 incident are to fires. We are not like the US as in we don't attend medical calls we have a seperate ambulance service that does that.

Well, the final update. The adjuster FINALLY came. Why he bothered, I have no idea. We told him on the phone the large items that were lost and he didn't do anything special but walk to the bottom of the basement stairs and then go back up.

HIM: Oh you've cleaned it all up already I see.

ME: Um.......yes? I mean did you think we were going to let it stand down here and rot further while you took your time coming here?

HIM: *shock* Well, ma'am, we did have a lot of claims. It's just hard to see damage if there is none to see.

Our insurance capped at $5000. Sounds like a lot, but its not. The furnace alone is going to take most of that. Add in a water heater, washer, dryer, dehumidifier, freezer, all the food in the damn freezer, etc. and that check is GONE. So that means the huge portion of my video game collection and collectibles that I lost are gone for good. Some items are damn near impossible to replace, some are too expensive to replace, and many of my Japanese items would just be too difficult to find. I honestly want to go out for a week and just get stoned out of my mind......haven't felt like that since the friggin 70's...
