You would stop, lose your job (suing for it back isn't really an option, you chose not to show up) and risk losing what ever savings you have, both outcomes making it nigh impossible to provide for those whom you have already agreed to support, to help some random guy you have no responsibility to?
You might, and you might not when really presented with the situation. I personally will put those of my family far above any random person, and would have no problem living and providing a comfortable life for them.
Even I did lose this one time, I would be making so much money on that previous bet that losing once wouldn't matter.
And yes, I always make that mistake.
