While I'm sure a % of men get harassed online by women and that is just as horrible, the number of women that get harassed online by men surpasses it by far. In games where I use my TheMom handle (been using that since waaaay back when the net was a wee little thing lol), I get harassed daily by people that think I should go take care of my kids, bake a cake, "do" my husband...or them ><, etc. Some of the things that have been said to me, I can't even repeat here, nor would I want to, they are so nasty. Any name with a feminine sound or denoting a woman (TheMom, TheGrandMom, ******lady, etc.) always get me unwanted comments. I've even had a nasty scare with a stalker which I explained in a different thread. I just think its much more scary out there for women than it is for men and we need to take greater care than most men do.

I would disagree with that. I mean, obviously there's much more female harassment online, but I doubt there's much of an increased risk outside that (assuming you aren't, for example, posting yourself on CL or something. Even CL and Myspace, much as they may get bad press, have very good safety records)

You're probably at a much much larger risk by just walking outside than by revealing you're female on the intarwebz.
