Sponge Bob is now, and always has been really, one big bad sex joke.

He's a sponge, who lives in a bikini bottom...with crabs?

    Yea.

Sailor Moon was aimed at an older audience then pokemon and doesn't even have half of the blatant sexuality of the Pokemon cartoon. I mean Sailor Moon does have sexually oriented stuff...in the way of a lot of homosexuality and such...but Pokemon is just boobs boobs boobs I mean Sailor Moon's sexuality wasn't really fanservice like Pokemon's is because Sailor Moon was made by a woman for girls.
Blatant sexuality? "Boobs boobs boobs?" Are we watching the same show? Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to defend the the Pokemon anime, I hate it - it's campy, lame, corny, and full of rampant stupidity episode after episode, but if Misty (who is appropriately flat in the anime), Officer Jenny, or Nurse Joy are your idea of "fan service," then Soul Calibur IV is softcore pornography. Sailor Moon has far more boobage considering it has a female-only cast of high school girls for main characters. Not to mention the US dubs tried to pass off Sailor Saturn and Uranus as just being cousins to hide the fact that they're lesbian lovers, and failed. But Pokemon has an episode in which Jesse ends up with a large amount of Shuckle on her, so we could call it even.

Sailor Moon may have catered to an older audience as well, but it was certainly marketed to little kids (naturally girls more so than boys), at least in the US - it even had a lame little 1-2 minute bit at the end of every episode called Sailor Moon Says or some such like that, in which they tell kids to do their homework, listen to their parents, not leave for tomorrow what you can do today, or some other wholesome piece of advice.

I've been battling my daughter on Spongebob since she moved in here. She let her 2yr old and 5 yr old watch it all the time at their house. When I saw them watching it I quickly changed the channel and they started to scream. She changed it back and the sparks flew. I do NOT think its appropriate for kids their age one bit....especially the 5 yr old! So now she lets them watch it when she is home and when Gramma is home....NOT!

I don't think it's that bad, the kids love it and they're too young to get most of the jokes anyway. It keeps them quiet.

Of course, this will turn into a discussion of how we parent. derailz.

I'm not saying Sailor Moon didn't have sexuality, I'm saying it didn't have as much fan-service as Pokemon...a kids show. And staring all girls =/ Fan Service. Fan service is the injection of otherwise unneeded sexuality into a show, and despite Jesse being the same age as all the sailor girls, her rack is easily 3-4 times their size. And she's not the only one on Pokemon to have boobs that defy gravity and physics. I'd do a google image search to show you what I mean...but I'm at work and even with safe filters on I'm not crazy enough to google for Pokemon girls.

And of course lets not forget the fact that Brock is trying to score with just about anything that moves.

On the other hand Sailor Moon was never a kid's show like Pokemon, it was aimed at the same audiences as most action animes. Though when it was brought over here, it was horribly mutilated and turned into the "wholesome" show you seem to be thinking of. Again, falling under the same dilema as One Piece and the short lived Escaflowne on Fox Kids. All of these shows were utterly destroyed by censorship in order to market them to kids far too young to be watching them. Not only was that "sailor says" crap added, but violence was removed, many episodes were cut (including one about a haunted house) and the final 2 episode battle in the first season was cut into one barely 20 minute "wtffest" because they didn't wanna show everyone dying.

When cartoon network got ahold of it, they tried fixing it up, but had to change the whole lesbian thing to "cousins" to again, avoid the censors. And as you pointed out, failing in doing so...practically on purpose. Said relationship, again, had nothing to with fanservice as they didn't really do anything fanservicey, and again, niether of them were as arbitrarily as large as some of the Poke-girls. But it still had to be censored to be aired on TV in the afternoons.

And I agree, Sponge Bob is not suitable for anyone to watch

                  1) Jessie's rack isn't anywhere as big as you're making it out to be. I've never heard any parent complain about Pokemon because they think Jessie's boobs are so big, they'll pervert the children.
                  2) Jessie has never struck me as underaged. According to Bulbapedia, she's 25.
                  3) Brock may be looking to score, but there's never anything sexual about his antics. He's about as harmless to kids as Johnny Bravo was (less so, actually - at least he doesn't act all macho.) There's no way for a kid to put two and two together just from watching him fawn over an Officer Jenny or Nurse Joy.

I will only concede that Foster's does indeed contain very large amounts of win.

Well my 5 yr old has taken to imitating Spongebob (and me and anything that walks and talks lol) and then the 2 yr old imitates the 5 yr old. So when Spongebob goes pantsless, the boys are running around half naked holding their pee pees. My 76 yr old mother came over one day when I was trying to corral them and put their clothes back on and 2 little naked boys playing with their pee pees nearly gave her a frickin heart attack! LOL (She had 4 girls so boys aren't her thing at all. LOL) Spongebob picks his nose, I have 2 kids digging for gold.... and on and on. Nope, no Spongebob when Gramma's on watch thats for damn sure!

LOOL, I think it's hilarious when the kids "discover" themselves in the bathtub ... kind of have to choke the laughter up inside though to tell them not to play with "that."

Re: Ahhh... the smell of censorship in the morning. Does 2AM count as morning?

I ran around naked at that age, and it wasn't from anything I saw on t.v. and I at one time discovered touching myself. Its very normal for both of those things, at least from my point of view, I'll get back to you when someone starts popping out my children.

Also, aren't you undermining the parenting your daughter is doing (or lack of), blatantly in front of her own children? Its particularly frowned upon if spouses do that to one another, I'm sure it is as well by another relative.
                        -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I didn't really think Pokemon was that bad. I watched it. However, I saw the U.S. version, not the "uncut" Japanese version (whatever changes that induced). I felt Jesse's breasts weren't really a problem, some woman in life just really happen to have larger breasts, do I need to hide my children then? What was shown in that manga a little earlier I would agree that it was not really the type of things I feel are appropriate (more so the unnecessary bottom of the breasts view of Misty), but I personally felt the show was alright.

As for Sailor Moon.... the white knight. Only fan service I remember it having (its been several years) were the really short skirts, which I personally don't have a problem with.

Yeah it's normal for them to do that sort of thing but you have to teach them that there's a time and place for it.
