I'm going to mostly ignore the boob issue because to be frank I don't care about it much. Japanese illustrators have slightly strange ideas of the female body and most men like it that way, the character being only 12 does edge it into creepy though.

I agree with Feba, the point here isn't really that they covered up the boobs it's that they butchered the whole damn picture doing it.

The smog effect is really horrible. It's bad enough to make me wonder who they got to do it, a friend of mine is a graphic designer who does some colouring for other people and illustration on the side and I'm pretty sure he could do something better than that in about 30 minutes easily.

Maybe its just me, but I've liked nothing from Namco since they merged with Bandai. I'm just left with the impression that, like SCIII, gameplay is falling to the wayside and they're going the DoA/EA route of selling sex and movie licenses to sell Soul Calibur now since nothing else could sell SCIII except making it a Greatest Hits.

SCII was more or less a repeat of SC, but it was quite refined, especially the Version E build which was where Link, Heihachi and Spawn were added in as unique characters. Those characters didn't get slapped on so shamelessly as something like Star Wars. Two of them were actually video game characters and the other a comic book hero. It felt more natural to have those characters cross over, I suppose.

SCII also sold really, really well. The problem with SCIII was not only was it not arcade tested, it broke a lot of the characters and was PS2 exclusive. It should have stayed mulitplatform.

Now its multi again. Make up your mind. Why even add Star Wars characters if you're going to separate Vader and Yoda? No one was really chomping at the bit to see Link vs. Spawn answered. You take two beloved movie chracters and remove the ability to have them fight each other. Very dumb.

TGM: Most women don't have tits as big as Ivy's either. I meant to say she has pretty average-sized breasts as a whole, not for a 12-year-old. I mean, really, her shorts were really short, but damn, the fact that she sent up red flags for the people doing the censoring says a lot, which was kind of my point.

EDIT: Oh, yes, forgot to post this too.

The controversy involving The Angry Beavers first started in 1998 when "Alley Oops!", a story in the series' 24th episode (seen during its 2nd season), contained the following lines:
            Dag: "You stink!"
            Norb: "Oh, shut up, Dag!"

After its first airing, a viewer anonymously complained about the phrase "shut up" in a Nick program, although it had been used by Dag twice in the episode "Go Beavers" in Season One and also on a sign of his in "Utter Nonsense" 2 months earlier. The second time the episode was aired,"shut up" was censored, using the traditional "bleep" noise. The censor only generated more controversy surrounding the show, as many viewers were led to believe that a profanity was masked by the "bleep". However, between airings, Nickelodeon changed Norbert's line to "Shush up, stupid!" It was the first time any Nicktoon had a line changed between airings.

And yet my boss was bothered by the Lucky Star images I was viewing because the characters were too flat and looked loli even though they're represented as being 16-18 years old. You just can't win really.

My wife would say the problem is any time we see an image of the female body, it's automatically in a sexual context. For example when we see Hannah Montana Cyrus's bare back (I can't remember her real first name) we think "oh my god her breasts are bare! That's so lavicious" even though her chest is completely hidden and not even compositionally alluded to in the photograph.

                Edit: And when I say "we" I mean the American culture. I think the picture in question was entirely tasteful. Also, I forgot mods don't get auto merge for double posts. <.<;

It always amazes me what people take up arms over. The fact that is was a children's cartoon about angry, occasionally very smelly beavers had me rollin' every time it aired. I'm surprised more parents never caught on.

Absolutely not. For every ten 4kids localizations or so, we get one absolutely beautiful one (Phoenix Wright). Literal localizations as a hard rule are a very, very bad idea. There are some very beloved shows that were created from butchering shows (such as Samurai Pizza Cats or Robotech), as well as translations which just do a very very good job (Phoenix Wright, Cowboy Bebop. Hell, I've never even bothered listening to the Japanese dub of Cowboy Bebop because they did such a good job in English.)

Many things just wouldn't make much sense to most people without localisations, even when they're silly (for example, food items). And series that become popular enough can be fixed later (for example, DBZ, and I think Naruto)

That would also never get passed, because it would remove a huge amount of creative freedom. What if we couldn't make American versions of gameshows; we had to translate the foreign ones? What if a work is so full of pop culture references that it is practically meaningless to a foreign audience-- one which would love it if it used ones they could recognize. There are plenty of valid reasons to change a work. This is just a rather poor one, and extremely poorly done.

About the OP, for a country as perverted as the US it's really funny people is still so afraid of the female body. Or any kind of full/partial nudity for that matter.

Yes I know she doesn't, I don't live in a bubble. LOL I wasn't talking about her though. I was talking about a cartoon mainly aimed at children (on this side of the pond). I don't see why a comic aimed at children and depicting children needs to appease adults by having daisy dukes and big boobs. Now if Pokemon was mainly for people 17+ and had people 17+ in it, I wouldn't have a single issue with it.

@Jarre: All I have to say to that is.... XD

                              Wow.

Edit: But on the topic of censorship in anime, there's one case that never, ever ceases to amaze me.

Escaflowne. I was (still am) a huge fan of that show. Then I found out that in a couple of places Fox Kids was sooooooo paranoid, they edited out things that were so... not-worth-it that I was mystified.

Episode one: Hitomi slaps Van? Yeah, cut out.
Later episode: She slaps him again for being an insensitive asshat. Cut out.
Another later episode: Someone is wounded and the Princess tears a strip of cloth of the *bottom* of her very long skirt and that was cut out as well....

Pokemon is hardly a children's only franchise, even the US it has tons of adult followers. There's also the Parent Service factor. Not everyone just sits their kid in front of the TV and walks off, ya'know.
