This has nothing to do with religion. It's asking people who lack religion about one small habit of theirs. I could just as easily ask xians if they see a problem with 'taking god's name in vain', or if they violate any of the other various biblical laws. It's not for or against religion, it's not biased one way or the other, it's just a question for one group; in the same way that "a question for those who have quit" was only worth asking that group.

If you don't like the thread, that's fine, but please just go away instead of trying to derail it.

I tend to use "goddamnit" fairly often, but that's about it. I have some zealously religious roomates, and it's never offended them, at least as far as I know. It's really become a habit of speech for me, but I do try to avoid it here or there when I think about it first.

Thanks to Roguewolf for the sig. :D

I has a Deicide shirt. I can't wear it in most public settings due to the flaming Jesus portrait on it, and I also can't wear my Slayer shirt that just says "Fuckin' Slayer" on it, but I can say God damnit and Jesus fucking Christ in public all I want. I find this slightly odd.

Ya one of my favorite t-shirts has Ode from the Garfield comic lying on the ground with is tongue hanging out. Then there are needles sticking out of him, pills on his tongue and on the ground around him, and vomit. It says under him O.D. I can't wear it anymore because my grandkids live with me and their mother had a hairy fit when she saw it. LOL

EDIT: Oh god my husband just reminded me of an "incident". Where we live there are 4 churches within a block of our home. So as you can imagine, Sundays lead to some very clogged sidewalks with people and streets with parked cars. Shortly after we moved in, I wanted to go visit a friend on Sunday so I got dressed and headed out the door. Well church was letting out at 2 of the churches, one right across the street from my house. As I was leaving, I saw people staring, disapproving scowls, and even some quiet stern comments. When I got in the car I realized why. /sigh I had on a shirt with 2 big turds on it in a sexual position with halos that said Holy F**king S**t. >< I totally didn't think.

Oh you think thats the end?? Nooooooooooooooo... The NEXT DAY, I start getting calls from my mother, my aunt, family friends, etc b***hing me out about this. The church across the street is a "sister" church to our family church......oh yes the pastor knew who I was and ratted me out to my family's pastor and he had a little talk with them....THE SAME DAY. >< Doesn't he have better friggin things to do with his time?? /sigh

I'm afraid thats rather sad that the pastor phoned up your families pastar and then your families pastor bitched to your family. Its supoosed to be a free world, free speach etc. what gives the right of a religeous representative to tell you what you should wear, should do, how to live, what to beleive in etc. I will stand by my beleifs of not beleiveing in religeon, as to me they just try and force a way of life onto you and if you decide to stray they will do what they can to make an example of you.

Q two blokes in a village near me, want to get hitched in my local church, Bishop and vicar refuses saying "its against the book" The local registry office is run by another vicars wife, Q no gays to marry there. This couple have to travel 74 miles to an office that will join them, they can't do it nar their own home because of what the religeon says about their life choice, how fucked up is that? (There was a full page artical on it in the local rag and the vicar and bishops comments were extreemly homophobic about they didn't deserve the rights to share a joined life.)

All it does hearing all these stories makes me feel better about myself for turning my back on religeon. (I was christened a methodist forced onto me by my parents, I had no choice, I had to o to church or I wasn't allowed to play with my friends.

I don't think being forced into a church or religion as a child is terrible. If anything it will provide you with a spring board when you're old enough to make your own decisions.

Please do not turn this into a thread about religion. That is not the meaning of this thread. There are many others already in existance that do that.

                        Welcome to the internet.

We could make this thread about watermelons if we wanted to. Once a thread is created and people post in it, it takes on a life of it's own.

Re: A question for the nonreligious

Watermelon (Citrullus lanatus (Thunb.) Matsum & Nakai, family Cucurbitaceae) refers to both fruit and plant of a vine-like (climber and trailer) herb originally from southern Africa and one of the most common types of melon. This flowering plant produces a special type of fruit known by botanists as a pepo, which has a thick rind (exocarp) and fleshy center (mesocarp and endocarp); pepos are derived from an inferior ovary and are characteristic of the Cucurbitaceae. The watermelon fruit, loosely considered a type of melon (although not in the genus Cucumis), has a smooth exterior rind (green and yellow) and a juicy, sweet, usually red or yellow, but sometimes orange, interior flesh. The flesh consists of highly developed placental tissue within the fruit. The former name Citrullus vulgaris (vulgaris meaning "common" — Shosteck, 1974), is now a synonym of the accepted scientific name for watermelon, Citrullus lanatus.
