Re: A question for the nonreligious

I think we mostly use them just from hearing/reading it from others.
May have a religious origin, but these days its usually far from its use.

Yes it does, to an extent, depend on region but I think cultural upbringing is more relevant and you implied that it's almost totally based on geography.

Just from talking to people in game I've heard religious based curses from brits, americans, europeans and one Andaluan (who says 'oh my god' fairly regularly), they seem to be fairly common from a variety of places.

I too use them, but like most people, it is from habit more than any feeling towards the words themselves. I try to find better phrases, but sometimes, the good ol ones just seem to work.

Well, as a religious person, I can honestly say it doesn't 'offend' me when someone uses God or w/e as an expletive. This is likely because my father has cursed like a sailor since I was born, and I am utterly 'numb' to the cursing and pay it no more heed than I do anything else that comes out of his mouth.

Yes, yes, I'm sure we'll get around the the atheistic broken record soon enough. But this is really just another Feba "anything that happened to be in my head at the time" topic, which is always going to end up in flames if he doesn't get direct answers to the topic. It may not get to that point, in fact, your badgering of the topic will probably only drive it that way.

Wow, this is obviously flame bait. This topic was directed specifically at people who decided at some point in their life that they don't need a god. It is a valid question and one I have asked myself any number of times. I was happy to see that others think about it too.

There is NO reason this should degenerate into anything other than a discussion between like minded people on a topic that doesn't include everyone. Those who don't share the beliefs, or lack thereof as the case may be, of the targeted audience, are of course, free to include their input. However, there is no reason to flamebait or bring this down to a specific religious level.

On the note about Feba's continueing topics that are on the top of his head. I for one enjoy them. There is not a lot to talk about in the world of FFXI right now. And it is a nice break from the usual topics. There are light and somewhat interresting. If they are not your cup of tea, there is absolutely, no reason to respond to them.

                            Enough "Derail" on this topic.

I hear "Thank God " a lot..is it really accurate.
For example, a mayor in a town recently destroyed by a tornado said"
No one died, Thank God !! Uh...didn't God send the tornado?

lol yeah I have to say I am not the most religous person but we all use "Religous" phrases and don't think about it. The omg, Jesus f christ, holy virgin mary wtf, go to he l l, and similar things, but if you actually let them get to you there are deeper mroe serious issues that lie within that need to be dealt with.

If you want to take offense from a comment that just slightly references a religous thing I say stfu, get over yourself, and live a happy life. Otherwise knows as stfu and have yourself a Coke. lol ^^
