    Re: Tattoos.

It's more that I can't tan. I used to as a child, but I've noticed as I got older I just burn to a crisp. And since I don't want skin cancer, the lump-in-my-chest breast cancer scare was enough for one life time, I don't over-expose to the sun anymore. But I'm also really fair-skinned, so if I get one, it'll be nice and vibrant.

Mine aren't super low-rise though. More average-low. I do have a pair that are reaaaaally low, and they make me about as uncomfortable as pants that come up too high.

I'm really picky with where the waistline is in my clothing. :3

Yes yes I know...necro, necro, necro. But I just couldn't justify making a new thread for just this.

For those of you interested in tattoos, this is a bit torrent for a show that I found very interesting. I tried to find another show that I watched about a year ago that was more into the history of tattooing but wasn't successful.

Well, Geez, if TGM thinks it's ok to reply to this one again...

Precisely because YOU know it's there. If no one else can see it, it wasn't put on for them. That's why the Yakuza suits are cool, they wear full on 3 piece suits, who's going to see that? Wives, lovers, other Yakuza, or the mortician burying them. At that point, you're almost giving the ink value. It's hidden, secret, special. You have to mean something to that person for them to show you their ink.

I've been considering this for awhile now, and it's back in my mind as a brother of mine is about to start a tour for the Army, (yes, he's a pussy), and we were all going to go down and get ink with him. I think the others were going for wive's names or stars or something. I'm a bit more ambitious. Back when I went through Boot Camp, the first few weekends out a few guys would take their new paychecks and go get inked. Everyone else was getting Eagle, Globes and Anchors put on. I figured, (rightly), that I had a pretty decent chance of being annoyed with the Corps when I left, it might be bright to get something else. Couple of weeks in, I'm in Tiger Jimmy's in San Diego. I see a picture on the wall I recognize. So, I get that put on my left upper arm. As I'm back there, I look over at the wall and notice another picture I recognize next to the artist, I guess he hung it there after he put it on someone to remind him of what it looked like. Next month or so, that's on my right. Neither is colored in, I liked them as just line drawings.

Any of you remember the Dragonlance Saga from highschool? Way back in the dawn of your nerd history... Remember Chronicles? Remember the woodcuts at the start of each chapter in Dragons of Winter Night? Left arm is the baby dragon wrapped around a sword. Right arm is the griffon on the cliffside with it's wings extended to lift off, howling at the clouded over moon. My sleeves cover both of these. Very few people know I even have them on. They're not for other people, they just remind me that I started playing D&D back in elementary school, I still like Fantasy games (this one included), and I probably always will. I believe in dreams and lost causes.

As I got older, I started thinking about other ways to ink myself up. I've decided to go with a flame motif up each arm when I finish Law School. It'll start about an inch below my wrist, looking like the flames of a lighter where they start as small points and expand upward, chasing up each arm and encompass the two upper arm tattoos in a frame. At the top of each forarm, inside, will be two blackened symbols hopefully looking like they're burned in. It's the dragon and tiger from Kung Fu, and I'm one belt test away from earning the right to wear those.

I have a long term plan... but it's complicated and depends on factors beyond my control. Should I get to the point where I've established myself in my legal profession, and my social clubs decide I'm worthy, I intend to get the following made up:

A blindfold strip ending at each temple, and a right glove meeting the flames. I haven't yet decided how hardcore I want to go on the glove, I will probably talk myself out of doing the palm, and I'm definitely not messing with my fingernails. The blindfold and glove are symbols of Tyr, norse god of justice. If all goes well, each will be formed of tiny interlocking Masonic Past Master symbols. I will never be able to ever hold a British public office with those, (on the other hand I'm American, so la-di-da there). Can you imagine looking over at the opposing counsel and seeing that? What about the judge? Yeah, you don't want to mess with either of them. If I'm going to show the rest of the world what I'm all about, this is what I'm going to have on me.

But again, that's just the pipe-dream now. It's like the wedding ring I designed for myself back in High School. If I'm going to be stuck with you for the rest of my life, I'll be wearing a piece of you around my finger, held in by some awesome looking metalwork.

            Re: Tattoos.

Yakuza donate their bodies, the bodies are skinned and preserved and then kept by various JP universities. They show a couple in the video. Palms are a waste of ink. They wear quickly. Ink under fingernails dissipates. Watch that video, you might want to tatto your eyeballs. *shudders* I've always wanted sleeves....especially since I'm already stared at and treated like a freak with my multiple tattoos.

Ok....you are going to add some blood/skin to the ring or what??

Hair, actually. Wrapping a braid up in silver network, (thinking leaf style), and incorporating that into the ring. Gotta figure out how to protect/preserve the hair first, though. Junior year of HS I started drawing that. I guess that'd be 12 years back now. I only intend to get married the one time, I'd like to have a reminder of who I married with me at all times. Jeweler is going to love me when I tromp all over his easy sale with my specific request.

I've seen the Yakuza skins. The history channel special on them was really interesting. I have a friend who has two killer looking sleeves, you'd never know if he doesn't wear a short-sleeve shirt, too. Guy looks like a regular Utah Returned-Missionary kid.

But yeah, sometimes you have a tattoo to show the world. Other times they're just for you. You know what it is, where it is, and what it really means. If you like someone enough, you may share that with them. Otherwise, the self-knowledge is enough.
