Ya - that's why I got what I did. Im not Yakuza, and I'm not too "Girlie" but I liked that design and my tattooist does beautiful work, so there it is. We are working on a medicine buddha for my right leg and the thousand armed goddess of compassion for the left...

              Re: Tattoos.

Nope, not samoan, but very in touch with sa'le'fe'e (Goddess of the Sea).

My stepmom used to run an inkhouse in Vegas and I met a lot of really good West coast artists. He saw it out there and fell in love with it. We spent a good deal of time designing it out, since he has no canoe (Family line) and no tavu (spiritual guide - sp?) so it was actually kind of hard to find someone to do it for him. Once begun, it's kind of a commitment.

They absolutely refused to do one on me tho. Apparently its a real polynesian boys club! IDK but I think a Pe'a is SEXY as hell (at least on a non- old fat guy - and Glenn is 6'4" and about 180, so.....)

                  Re: Tattoos.

Oh good lord no!!! He's way too much of a wimp for that!! (and lucky for me, doesn't read the forums - hehehe). And, yeah, it would be disrespectful to use someone else's family's canoe or tavu on a Pe'a. That's one of the reasons we came up with all his own themes. He looks at it as more honoring polynesian culture, than disrespecting their traditions.

But original bone and hammer tools? Frankly if I had to endure that kind of pain, I wouldn't have any tattoos, neither would he. But don't think it's all smooth sailing - apparently there are parts of a mans' anatomy, that may not be "genitals", but is close enough to HURT as if it were...

                  A LOT apparently......

Why's that? Any decent pair of low rise jeans would show most of it, and that's all I wear anyway, as higher rise hits me in a funny spot and makes me fidget. I don't want anything on my arms; I never wear shorts/capris to put anything on my ankle and it show.

And I think a person makes the tattoo, not vice versa. So a lot of whores have one? Most of modern society are what I deem whore-ish in many aspects about sex anyway, and if I avoided everything they did, I'd never leave my house.

And if I ever got one, I'd have thought long and hard about it and not go get it removed later. Why? Because as I said, it's a spot that's easily covered. I could do it higher on my back, I thought of between my shoulder blades, but I'm faced with the same problem as ankles: I never wear clothing that leaves that spot open, and why get a tattoo if no one else ever sees it?

                      Re: Tattoos.

Well some people do get "private" tattoos to commemorate somthing or other, and don't want to show it off as it's really just a private memento of something. I don't really understand it, myself, but I guess if that's how some people want to decorate their body then that's fine.

                        Re: Tattoos.

I've got Wile E. Coyote on my arm, because it's one of the few things I could think of at the time that I was reasonably sure I would still think was awesome ten years later (and I was right). I'd like to get more, in theory, but so far, other things have continually been a bigger monetary priority.

I would possibly get a 2-D barcode with some meaningful something in it. Or a favorite saying. Or a random design. Or a rat.

Oh. A fractal image. That would be hot.

Where you are thinking of getting one is a great spot. You can show it when you want without exposing anything that shouldn't be exposed. LOL But I have to say something about your comment above. As a woman with tattoos in places where they are easily seen, I wish i would have gotten some in places that are more discreet. As you get older, you will lose a bit of that "devil may care" spirit. There will be times you'll want to wear that sleeveless or see through lacy dress and those tattoos on your biceps just don't go well with it. There will be times you want to attend a function in something other than a pants suit but if you do the stares and comments will drive you crazy all evening. You'll want to blend in with society and yet you'll always be on the outskirts as long as you show those tattoos.

I know I'll probably get a few people going "Oh then I won't hang out with those people!" "I don't want to blend in with society!" "I don't care if I wear sleeveless/lacy/etc stuff!" Trust me, I have a bit of experience on you, you will and it will happen at some point in your life...maybe briefly or possibly reoccuring to the point of aggravation but it will. It's something you MUST realize AS A WOMAN getting tattoos in places that are easily seen. MEN should take heed too as regret can be felt by both sexes. I wish someone that had some years and experience on me had sat me down and warned me before I went "crazy" with the tattoos. I little bit of knowledge can go a long way.

                            Re: Tattoos.

Well, that's why I wanted it on my lower back to begin with, as I figured I could keep it hidden when I wanted to wear something a bit more feminine. I'm not really very bold about showing skin, actually, it's just that most of my pants are low rise anyway, because for some reason, if I wear things that touch a certain spot right below my naval, it makes me fidget and pull at them all day. So I'd be able to have a tattoo there and show it when I'm out, and hide it easily when at work. ^_^ Or easily hide it when out at a nice restaurant, etc.

I don't tan well, so I don't really wear shorts or capris so a leg/ankle tattoo is out, and don't have even that many spaghetti strap tops to make use of an 'upper back' tattoo. That and if I had one on my leg/ankle/arm, I'd have to wear big ugly bandaids to cover it, or long sleeves/long pants every day I was at work because they don't allow visible tattoos.

Generally speaking, I wear nice baby tees and jeans. So lower back is the only place I'd want to put it, so it could be seen, or covered at will.

You know, I have a bone to pick about those darn low rise pants! I see so many pants that I absolutely love the style of and I go try them on and I feel like my pants are going to fall off!! LOL I did end up buying 3 pairs of low rise Levi cords because I got all 3 for $20 which was a good deal. My daughter would laugh nonstop at me because I would constantly be tugging at them pulling them up. LOL I HATE most pants in the Misses section (where I shop usually) so I wander in Juniors sometimes and see things that I want but have to pass on because they are usually low rise. Even nice looking sweat pants for pete's sake! LOL (Sorry for the off topic but this is such a peeve of mine!)

Well its good you don't like to tan if you are getting a tattoo. So many people ask me at events how my tattoos colors have stayed so vivid after so many years and my answer is simple. STAY OUT OF THE SUN! I'm blond and blue eyed so I just burn. LOL So no sun for me turned out to benefit my tattoos. I had a friend that got an awesome wizard on his forearm. God I loved that tattoo so much. A month later that tattoo looked like it was 20 years old. Faded, blurry, and just nasty looking. Oh and he was hopping mad too. He blamed it on the artist, the ink, and everything but himself. I tried to tell him but he just poo poo'd me and went and got another one. Guess what? Same damn thing happened because he loves to play sports and such outside IN THE SUN! His retort, "I don't go out tanning so why should my tattoos be like this!"

(FYI, tanning booths will do the same thing to a tattoo. And remember the darker your skin, the less vibrant your tattoo will be.)
