I'm pretty sure everyone here has uttered at some point in their life, "What's the worst that could happen?" This thread is stories from those who have been in the situation one step after uttering that line the proverbial s___ hit the fan. More or less a gripe thread on how the world took notice of your situation and turned it from managable to a disaster. It's days like these I really hate reality.
Step #1 - Last simester during my advanced computer repair course I was logged in at home through the Universities program to take my online midterm, I had a time limit of 2 hours after accessing the program to complete the section, before I started the test I turned to my room mate and uttered "This is simple stuff, what's the worst that could happen?" Well, that one's simple. Both my video card and ram decided to fail. Woo, go me. I went to Staples and found older ram that would be compatable with my computer and an inexpensive video card. Problem fixed, yay.
Step #2 - About two days after my CEET midterm I took a day off work to complete my english midterm (4 hours and 17 pages) which, at the company I was currently employed at was a great, life threatening crime, word of advice, never work for a company that goes red in the face if you take a sick day. I took a break after typing solid for about 3 hours to go get lunch, saved my information on my flash drive and hopped in my car, about four miles away from the University my waterpump blew out in my car throwing coolant and all sort of other things that shouldnt be splashed on the interior of an engine all around the underside of my hood. Ok, I can deal with that. Called my brother to come help me get my car when class was over and hoofed it back to the computer lab to finish my paper minus lunch. Took the care to my mechanic, problem fixed within a week... a week without a car... for a full time college student with a full time job just sucks rocks.
Step #3 - CEET Final, yay! The last test and I'm off to take my A+ certification for computer repair. At home all snuggly with a beer and my keyboard getting ready to take my final... power surge followed by an area blackout that over rode my UPS and shorted out my computers power supply.... I wanted to stab something, this was about 6 weeks after I fixed it the first time. After trying and failing to repair it without going to buy a new power supply I got the great idea to get a best buy credit card and snag a new computer, alright! That'll work, I'll go with that plan. Got the new computer home, a new UPS and by the time all of that was done I could start my final. Woot! 99% on my test.
(Almost forgot this one)
Step #4! - Playing FFXI with my girlfriend one weekend, I was on my backup computer, she was testing the new one out and loved it, boom! crash! the lightning flashed! And my brand new computer up and died... wft over? Took it back to best buy, and told them they can keep the p.o.s. The best part about how this one commited seppuku is it actually released all of the information on the hard drive while she was in the middle of FFXI, seriously, decided to commit suicide and let go of the programming that recognized windows Vista. Got a new computer, it's running fine and I've tricked Vista into thinking that it's XP except it still takes an ungodly amount of resources to even idle.
Step #5 - Today is my math final, I've studied and worked harder at this class than I have any other and I'm still scraping by with a passing grade unless I fail horribly on my final I 'should' be taking in 2 hours. See that? I quoted the 'should' part. Wanna know why? Because my car just fucking died. I hope its the starter, it might be the transmission, but the main point is it's a 2002 chryslter seabring... and this shit shouldnt be happening to it... and now I'm waiting for a towtruck at work so I can go to the dealership and find out how much I'm going to be raped on the price.
The end? Give me a month, I'll letcha know.
Has anyone else had a horrible run of luck like this? The time frame of all of this is about 5 months, and I would be totaly screwed if I wasn't pulling the G.I. Bill for school, the great part about that is tey give me about $1,400/month for school and my tuition costs $1,700, the bad part about it is you have to join the army and finish your contract (2 years, go me.)
