Indeed it was very frightening. It came out in court that he spent quite a bit of effort to find me. The judge made a comment that infuriated me. He said that with that much effort put in, I should feel flattered. WTF!? Anyways, he knew some of my friends played and spied on me in game, made another character and buddied up with them. He got tidbits of information about their lives and then did some real life investigating. Then he staked out my home and watched our routine so he knew when to come up and knock. It's a horrible thing not feeling safe in your own home and I hope none of you ever have to endure it.

A friend in game just gave me this link, seems like very fitting to the topic!

The person presiding over your case thought you should feel flattered that someone you'd never met cared enough to stalk you for a period of probably several weeks (on and off line) then deliberately drop by when he knew you'd be alone and assault you. That's....beyond disgusting on the judges part.

Flattered?! I nearly spit my tea out when I read that. The administration at the university I work for told me I need to be more careful so that this would not happen again, which was fine, but they did nothing to the student who tracked down my address. Had they told me I should be flattered, I may have had to quit my job.

I am so glad I took those self defense classes, I will show any man who decides to stalk me just how flattering a size six shoe feels to the side of your head.

Quite honestly, I would've complained, and loudly.

I'm not sure exactly what the official channels would be for that, but you could bet your ass the local media would've heard about it. That kind of a statement shows a huge disrespect for the law and people's rights on the judge's part, not to mention it sounds pretty damn sexist too.

Couldn't agree more Feba. He should be disbarred, or at least on some kind of probationary measures.

Unfortunately it happens often here. I was broadsided at a STOP SIGN on my motorcycle by a drunk in a suburban. He fled the scene and went home. Then he walked back to the accident and someone in the corner bar knew it was him and told the police. In the end, they ticketed me for failing to yield the right of way and he got off. Now this is the part where I smack myself soundly, I did not get a lawyer when I went to court. I mean, it was so absolutely ridiculous that any person with a brain is going to see it, right? WRONG!

I was constantly told what I had to say was irrelavant so basically I couldn't say more than yes or no. The guy that hit me had a few DWI's and the last one he still had not paid restitution for so the judge yelled at him for that and made him promise to start paying. When I complained about his blood alcohol, the drunk said that after he went home he had a drink before coming back to the scene of the accident. Riiiiiiiiiiight. That was about it.

Get this, you know how insurance companies try to squeeze every last dollar out of you? Well my insurance company was so shocked after they read the report that they deemed the accident NOT my fault and didn't raise my rates even though I was ticketed.

It's the good ole boy system here for sure. Raising your voice doesn't amount to a hill of beans. Too many people kissing one anothers ass. I brought this case to the local news stations and no one would touch it with a 10 foot pole. I was told at one station that this particular judge was retiring soon and was senile as hell. He was also well connected so the story didn't even make it past his boss.

This is probably more because cagers are freaking idiots. Pretty much anyone in an accident that isn't in a ton and a half deathtrap is viewed as the likely cause. Hell, I've seen videos where bikers were INTENTIONALLY RUN OVER AND CRUSHED, and the police blamed them and not the driver doing it.

But, uh, if your court system is that incompetent, I'd be raising an even bigger fuss than any personal injustice. Imagine how many people have been screwed over by their apathy.

I've avoided giving out even my name too freely ever since a little episode with an online stalker, that ended with posts supposedly from me, saying my name, address, phone number, with a link to a photo, that was basically an invitation to local stalkers. It's not as bad as what you had, I think, but it was no fun thinking that there might be somebody out there looking for this dangerously false image of me ... and I would have no way to know. I did get one or two calls about it, but they felt pretty foolish when it became clear that I'm not quite like that...

WOW, who knew there was all this going on? TGM Thanks for the eye-opener!!

With regards to the attentions of the hormonal and amorous.... my husband and I usually are always together in-game, unless we're crafting/farming/whatever. If we're doing missions or EXPing, we're together. For some reason having him there has kept things pleasant. Our LS's are full of nice folks too (and deliciously young and wide-eyed!! I'm learning whole new languages from their chats).

Being as we are both ex-military, and I spent years working in EMS for a decent sized city, believe me, there isn't much I haven't heard, or been called. Like TGM, I'm probably old enough to be some pencil-necks' mother as well as just NOT what he's looking for (unless his dream is me, in which case GET HELP!).

I'm fine, it's been quite some time since that happened. I'm just less free with my actual name, and avoid having pictures online that I know of...

Well, I once got into a similiar situation, where a person came to my house. But he basically just walked around my house looking for me, he didn't enter the backyard or anything. I didn't even know he was there untill late at night a woman from the neighbourhood came knocking at my door to tell me there was a strange person with weird accent from a certain country. I knew who it was, as he was saying online to me that he was coming just as tourist in the neighbourhood.. and the day after he told me, so there never really was any doubt.
Aside from that, as though it was scary and freaky, and definetely wrong of this person, I've known him for quite some time online, voice chatted and used webcam before. So in all honesty, I never really was in any danger, even if I'd let him in the house etc.

And on a sidenote. I know exactly where he lives as well. If i'd give his address to some friends I have, they'd get a group together and go pay him a visit.
Even aside from that, I've had about 9 years of different fighting sports experience, more training than actual battle, but it's happened more than once that I've successfully defended myself from men more than twice his size.. and i'm not even that muscular or tall nor have I had any self-defense classes, apart from the few in highschool.
