It's a horrible thing not feeling safe in your own home and I hope none of you ever have to endure it.
I've avoided giving out even my name too freely ever since a little episode with an online stalker, that ended with posts supposedly from me, saying my name, address, phone number, with a link to a photo, that was basically an invitation to local stalkers. It's not as bad as what you had, I think, but it was no fun thinking that there might be somebody out there looking for this dangerously false image of me ... and I would have no way to know. I did get one or two calls about it, but they felt pretty foolish when it became clear that I'm not quite like that...

Now this is the part where I smack myself soundly, I did not get a lawyer when I went to court. I mean, it was so absolutely ridiculous that any person with a brain is going to see it, right? WRONG!

I was constantly told what I had to say was irrelavant so basically I couldn't say more than yes or no. The guy that hit me had a few DWI's and the last one he still had not paid restitution for so the judge yelled at him for that and made him promise to start paying. When I complained about his blood alcohol, the drunk said that after he went home he had a drink before coming back to the scene of the accident. Riiiiiiiiiiight. That was about it.

Get this, you know how insurance companies try to squeeze every last dollar out of you? Well my insurance company was so shocked after they read the report that they deemed the accident NOT my fault and didn't raise my rates even though I was ticketed.

It's the good ole boy system here for sure. Raising your voice doesn't amount to a hill of beans. Too many people kissing one anothers ass. I brought this case to the local news stations and no one would touch it with a 10 foot pole. I was told at one station that this particular judge was retiring soon and was senile as hell. He was also well connected so the story didn't even make it past his boss.

its sad that this BS still happens.... fare court system my ass -.-

This is probably more because cagers are freaking idiots. Pretty much anyone in an accident that isn't in a ton and a half deathtrap is viewed as the likely cause. Hell, I've seen videos where bikers were INTENTIONALLY RUN OVER AND CRUSHED, and the police blamed them and not the driver doing it.

But, uh, if your court system is that incompetent, I'd be raising an even bigger fuss than any personal injustice. Imagine how many people have been screwed over by their apathy.

Couldn't agree more Feba. He should be disbarred, or at least on some kind of probationary measures.

Quite honestly, I would've complained, and loudly.

I'm not sure exactly what the official channels would be for that, but you could bet your ass the local media would've heard about it. That kind of a statement shows a huge disrespect for the law and people's rights on the judge's part, not to mention it sounds pretty damn sexist too.

Flattered?! I nearly spit my tea out when I read that. The administration at the university I work for told me I need to be more careful so that this would not happen again, which was fine, but they did nothing to the student who tracked down my address. Had they told me I should be flattered, I may have had to quit my job.

I am so glad I took those self defense classes, I will show any man who decides to stalk me just how flattering a size six shoe feels to the side of your head.

The person presiding over your case thought you should feel flattered that someone you'd never met cared enough to stalk you for a period of probably several weeks (on and off line) then deliberately drop by when he knew you'd be alone and assault you. That's....beyond disgusting on the judges part.

You'd be amazed at what can be found with just a name.

I didn't feel like saying anything before, but I decided to share something awesome. I have a very good friend ingame who plays a Galka. I play a Mithra and it's no secret that I'm a guy, but I still to this day get hit on. I used to ignore it, but now I just say that "IT'S A TRAP!" and go about my day. At the time I didn't get how I could be mistaken for a girl because of my odd sense of humor, I never once acted "girly", and assumed that no girls would ever regularly have conversations ingame about porn and placing babies in blenders. None of the girls I knew at the time ever did that sort of thing, and being the ignorant young man that I was I figured that was the way things worked everywhere.

One day I met this Galka and we got pretty close, we shared many of the same interests and had a similar sense of humor. Then one day said Galka asked me to do a webcam chat, and I agreed, completely unaware of the surprise waiting for me. Turns out the Galka's a girl, and she explained to me why she played a Galka. Aside from them looking like gigantic teddy bears, she figured that playing a Galka would save her from a great deal of harassment. She also mentioned being tired of having to play a short character, as she is rather short in real life. So playing a huge gorilla-like teddy bear was a win win situation. It also helps that she's totally /b/, so even when she mentions that she's a girl to new LS people they don't believe her. There's some reverse trap jokes on occasion, though. >.>
