Re: Yet another hilarious backfire courtesy COS

    Awesome.

I'm quite fond of reading about religions, their influential people, hierachies, laws etc...

Didn't know about this wikileak site, don't surf the net much, if at all, I'll keep on eye on it.

Do you know what the church of Scientology is?

I'm gonna guess you haven't heard of it specifically before. I suggest reading about it here.

Basically, it's a church that is widely considered little more than a cult exposition for the whacko, coked-out, and otherwise dissaffected or jobless people of Hollywood California. It has no official or unofficial connection with any other major religion.

Tom Cruise (yes, the movie actor) is one of their most visible spokespersons.

They aren't claiming the internet is a sin, I believe. I believe, they're claiming that the internet hates them, and that the internet has treated them rather rudely. These two statements are generally considered true.

This isn't to say that scientology hasn't fought back... it's just so hard when it's the freakin' internet you're fighting against.

To be honest though, the "Church of Scientology" has been made more than it actually is because of the media.

Yeah. That's what's so funny about the whole ordeal, if you ask me. It's basically two sides of the same coin spinning to catch the other.

Me, I say live and let live.

Calling scientology a cult is generous at best.

It's a business venture of a science fiction author. He stated, numerous times, before he founded the COS that "if you want to make money, start a religion", and other things in that general direction. Their 'beliefs' are practically taken from a Sci-Fi B-Movie script.

Even worse than taking advantage of people for money; what makes them worse than most religions is that you have to pay hueg amounts of cash in order to proceed and 'learn' more in their ranks. That, and they have quite a few elements that reek of organized crime. Google 'Lisa McPherson' and "Fair Game".

SAVE ME WITH YOUR WITCHCRAFT TOM CRUISE!

I was gonna post some South Park clips of the Scientology episode ('cause it's bloody brilliant) but Youtube took them all down 'cause of syndication.

Anyway I have to side with Bill Maher on this in that organized religion is probably one of the most dangerous things in the world (history will prove this for me) and was "started by people who didn't know what an atom is."

Right or wrong that's the stance I take on the matter and I'll leave it at that. (I'll pass on the potential flame wars here kthxbye)
