  • Favorite works?

Just a place to recommend books, movies, and art works that you've run into in your life and want to share them with others

    Favorite Books/Writers
Jonathin Strange and Mr. Norell - the absolute BEST book I've ever read, it's a historical fiction book with the idea that one of the kings that united england was a magician raised in the fairy realm (seriously... not the fairy realm that you'd ever think, it's absolutely twisted and wonderful)

Terry Pratchett - Wrote my favorite fantasy world ever called Discworld, it's a flat disc that rides upon the backs of four giant elephants that stand on the shell of the universe turtle across space, yea, if that's not a fun way to put a book I dont know what is ^^ one of the characters is "The Luggage" a magical chest that will follow it's owner through dimensions and protect it from harm (usually) while storing their belongings and giving back it's owners garments with a nice lilac scent.

Neil Gaiman - There's honestly too much that he's done that I can explain, he wrote Stardust which came out in theaters not too long ago, American Gods, Anazi Boys, Neverwhere, Mirror Mask, and a bunch of short stories in books that are absolutely wonderful =D I'd highly recommend him if you are ever looking for a new book - oh yea... he's most famous for the Sandman series which I havent read yet :D

Gaimain and Pratchett wrote a book called Good Omens, it's fantastic xD the story more or less explains what would happen in the world if the antichrist had neither good nor bad influences growing up and was able to rationalize for himself... at the age of 12 - while the angel that placed him on earth actually mixed him up with some other boy and has to try and figure that out

Haha, that's all for now, I'll put up a few more when I get up

The Lost Boys, by Orson Scott Card. Chilling is the only word I have for it.

Ticktock, by Dean Koontz. Crazy, non-stop, and... weird. Love it.

      Re: Favorite works?

there are very few authors i find actually deserve to be authors... most i find don't really do a good job, masking crap story telling skills with lots of detail about the scenery. there is only so many times i can read about what the table/room/city looks like before i get bored of the book.

the best fantasy author i have ever read is Robin Hobb. her books have it all. intrigue drama humor and action. givee them a try if you get a chance they are excelent.

stephen king is the best at horror. alot of ppl dont like becuase he is too popular, but i find he gives a very well balance to his story telling and descriptions, never bogging you down with too much at once. plus his stories are so out there that i cant help but to love them.

If you like fantasy, I'm a fan of Katherine Kerr's Deverry Saga, first book starts with "Daggerspell". Epic.

Recently read the first two Anne Rice (Vampire Chronicles) noves: Interview with the Vampire and The Vampire Lestat. Awesome books. I think they are movies too, but the book usually is better anyway.

Also recently read "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas' a very trippy novel by Hunter S. Thompson. Loved it.

Favourite book: "Brave New World" Aldous Huxley. Go read it now.

I read Ragweed once, long time back. Very good book, if memory serves.

I've been wanting to read the rest of the Poppy series so badly, though.

            Books

Lately I've been reading a lot of political stuff like The Audacity of Hope (Barack Obama),It's Getting Ugly Out There (Jack Cafferty), and Where have all the Leaders Gone? (Lee Ioccoca). All of them are great reads. I also highly recommend Bill Clinton's Giving, Alan Greenspan's Age of Turbulence (very insightful as to how the US economy really works and proves that outsourcing and even the war in Iraq are just drops in the bucket do not come close to representing the true threats to the US economy. Shit, I never knew that the US economy was 13 trillion a year before I read that book @_@; that's an insane amount of money) as well as anything by Donald Trump and/or Robert Kiyosaki.

            >. > for more leasurely reading I find Richard A Knaack's works (particularly his contributions to the Diablo and Warcraft novel series) are just made of win. So are the recent Magic the Gathering Books ^^ (Time Spiral Block was GREAT!)
