Re: Kentucky Lawmaker Wants to Make Anonymous Internet Posting Illegal

    ....

Congratulations, I have been rendered stupefied by the depths of human idiocy, Mr. Legislator.

    1. People on forums being able to see other's full address and real names = hello, massive increase in child predation.

    2. Easier to steal identities. Like it needs be any fucking easier.

Does this guy even have a functioning brain?

And since when does the US have any say over the WWW?

    Epic fail of the day.

Telera: same as when downloading copyrighted content/child porn/making terrorist threats/harassment over the internet became illegal. They may not control the internet, but governments sure as hell control communication methods within their jurisdiction.

I have to agree that this guy has no idea how the hell internet works. I'd rather stay anonymous; I don't need anymore stalking me than already are (read: currently trying to).

I also like the fact that his last name is Couch.

Yes, Feba, I know. Illegal activities is one thing. And authorities have tools to find people, so they don't even really *need* the names or addresses to be registered to the site. But this pushes into a territory that no government has any right over. It will also put people in danger, particularly children. Or hell, any man or woman that some other internet freak takes a shine to. It would give them easier access to finding them, and doing real harm.

Last thing the freaks and rejects need is more power and tools.

And if this law were passed, posting anonymously on the internet would be an illegal activity in Kentucky.

I'm not sure what's so hard to understand about this.

Don't I know it ... at one time, I was freer with my real name and there was a picture of me on somebody's website. I had to ask for that picture to be pulled after an internet crazy chose to look up my address and phone number, use an anonymous remailer to send messages supposedly from me (sexual in content, really downright stalker-bait) and generally seriously concern me. I mean, a couple of people called me up, BELIEVING those messages, and the idea of somebody knowing where I live and what I look like, with this distorted view of what I'm like, wasn't one that helped me sleep at night...

And now there's somebody trying to make it ILLEGAL for people like me to be anonymous on the Internet!? Thank you, NO!
