Re: Work internet anti-entertainment security.
Or you could, you know, work at work. I mean, I get that jobs can be kind of boring, but no one is making you stay there.
edit: To clarify. If your employer doesn't mind you browsing, have at it. But in the instances where they clearly do? Maybe finding loopholes isn't the best use of their time. That's right, when you're at work, you're on their time.Last edited by Murphie; 02-21-2008, 02:06 PM.

Lol, typical Murphie. Always assuming the worst and finding the negitive side in almost everything.
Anyway, I use it on my 15 min breaks and I read many things on Howstuffworks.com and similar sites (Hince why I knew what/how luminescence works...it was in another post to help Yellow Mages debate on how something can't be invisible and still have color). I ran across each hole in security by accident. I was translating a page from korean to english when I accidently click a link to a korean gaming site (Maple) and I was allowed to browse. Then I wondered could I browse any website this way...
The Cache trick was by a miss click. Then I wonder could I look at any page this way...
FYI: My current job is to find problem with software/hardware and I am extremely good at it. My major problem is I can seem to turn it off.PSN ID: Kelshan

Re: Work internet anti-entertainment security.
How am I assuming the worst or finding the "negative side?" Your employer doesn't want you to view certain sites, and you're attempting to get around that fact, and instruct others how to do so as well. Am I wrong?
Whatever your reasons, you are not entitled to view anything you want on your employer's network or machines.
I'm not even going to touch the "typical Murphie" comment. I don't even know who you are.

Often times sites are blocked because that genre of websites has been known to have a higher-than-normal risk of some form of malware or other garbage being installed on the computer. See also: ffxi.somepage.com.
While you might view it as the IT department just trying to spoil your fun, it really is to keep machines clean as much as anything else. If the IT folks actually wanted to mess with you, there are much better ways to do it.Wii Number - 2810 2423 4673 3261 - Please PM me if you add me!

The typical thing comes from the last few months of reply post I seen from you. They seem to be either complete flames(opinion base) or logical facts. I thought I grabbed one of the flame ones. After reading my first post I realize I didnt give much information about my usage, just the fact that I was using the security hole. It sounded like I was just using it to do no work for 9 months then come across another to hole to continue the process. In reality it wasnt like that. The first security hole I rarely use and I havent even use the second security hole, It does not have a use for me. I apologize, you were stating a logical fact and I was taking it as a flame.PSN ID: Kelshan

Re: Work internet anti-entertainment security.
Murphie doesn't flame people nearly as much as you give him credit for. Besides, there's typically two sides to every discourse. If he bothers you then don't reply to him.
Regardless, I use the 'cached' search on Google from time to time. For some reason, wikipedia is blocked here. I ultimately got around it by taking over IT/Network duties here. lol

Re: Work internet anti-entertainment security.
To hear most people tell it, every other post is a flame. I have given up saying otherwise.
I can see why some employers might block Wikipedia. It can be a real time waster.

But, yeah, it must be tiring to see every single post directed at you as an accusation of misunderstanding or as a mindless praise (ispo ergo the above). You must know what it's like to be God, sans omnipotence/science/everythingence.

Re: Work internet anti-entertainment security.
Just wait till your company gets fed up with their so called internet abuse and they block almost everything...that including the company intranet homepage and most of the web based docs you need to do your job. The one thing I fail to see is if one person is an abuser everyone is an abuser. But thats corperate america for you. They don't want to single out so they point fingers at everyone.
