There are some comments, but it's easy to lose track of which level of the nested IF I'm in when I press Page Down a couple of times. There's a distinct hatred of abstraction layering going on here.

And, a strong reluctance to change how things were named--'blahblah' was named this way because it was meant to represent that specific thing, but years past the concept was generalized and so it doesn't do what the name says anymore, but DON'T YOU DARE CHANGE THAT AND CONFUSE EVERYONE BY MAKING IT SAY WHAT IT DOES.

Of course, the comments still refer to what it did in the past. Mostly.

(There are also abbreviations everywhere that may possible make sense if you know what they mean, but of course you don't, and it's not explained anywhere.)

I'm in same boat Mal after company folded on March 31st, due to me being still owed money, I can't claim the dole (benefits) until the last payment of £300 is paid to me, so basically the government thinks I can live on air till then. Am applying for a job in Nottingham but closing date is May 15th so will probably have to wait till June to find out if they want me for interview or not. Stupid thing is all the benefits you get like free perscriptions, fre dental when on the dole, I can't get, I need a crown and due to me starting treatment for it while not on teh dole I can't claim for the money for it when i am on so got to find £218 for having a crown put in, my teeth are bad due to my meds I am on for spine and depression that make your mouth dry, I clean twice a day but it still doesnt help as your natral defensives of saliver is very rare. allso yes we have an NHS here (of which I still have to pay my stamp for at £12 a week until I am able to sign on) my meds still cost me £8.05 per perscription and as I have 2 thats £16.10 a month that I don't have to fork out on them plus rent of £495 a month Plus £200 of bills then to feed me and my cat who sadly has to be rehomed soon due to me unable to take her with me when I move, though where I go I have no idea, depends on teh job interview if they give me a job or not, so can';t move till I know that as if they turn me down I will have to move to Lincoln to stay at a friends can only afford from savings one move so stuck here till I kn ow which way I am going. so yeah ifes pretty shite at the moment and I want to work and typical of teh UK government, those that want to work gert fucked over while the doleites who sit on their arses all day watching Jeramy Kyle (Think uk version of jerry springer) who manage to fiddle the syetm and all the foriegners who tghe government give them a golden handshake when they step off the plane and all these young mothers who just squeeze out a baby every year do ffuck all and get paid loads the whole systems fucked and I know why my mate and his wife emigrated to Australia.

We lost 6 jobs due to cost. Basically theres so many one man bands now and competition is tight because job centre forced all those redundant in the crash of 2009 to go into their own practice over the last 2 years which has saturated the area so people are putting in exceptionally low prices of which a 3 man team cannot compete with, plus Lincolnshire is still in recession only London and south area out of it, as usual us up north are left behind in the funding from government for projects to kickstart the economy and the only people doing well are housing developers who have already had their estates designed and were waiting to build until the government pushed money into them. Plus English herritage has paused a grade 1 listed job we were doing because they are arguing over minute details with the plannign authority and we can't proceed with the application until the councils planning , english herritage and the council who are selling the wing for a hotel development we are doing can agree actual cost, and contents that can be changed, so far its been 3 months, it can take over a year for them all to agree. Then 2 [rpjects were ditched because client couldn't afford to build it this year so waiting for it to pick up so its been delayed by a year. So from having 12 jobs on the books, we finished 2 jobs off and went in one week having 12 down to 1 and nothing on the horizon thus far, you can't keep 3 people with bills needing paying etc. on a job worth £2k which is all thats left to do.

Don't know about U.K., but the statistics I came across in early 2000's and early 1990's all said most people on welfare don't stay on it for more than 2 years. The most typical applicants were the single mothers; which is to say, welfare in U.S.A. primarily benefited children, and for moderate durations. Not coincidentally, a lot of these women were also battered wives and girlfriends.

There are abusers in the system, and I'm all for punishing the abusers, but I demand any reform (and there should be reform!) to take care of those women and their children, especially the victims of domestic violence.

For decades, a large segment of political operators like to rile up people over cases of immigrants and minorities* gaming the welfare system. Whip up the emotions of fear, disgust, and hatred, and the people would vote without asking useful questions. At least, not any question useful for understanding the messy reality.

It's not an overstatement to say how well that and other distortions have worked over the years have undermined my trust in democracy. People are so easily fooled; all you need a little charisma, a dash of anger, and dogged willingness to repeat slanted 'fact's or just outright lies, and the votes go your way.

* Most welfare applicants self identified as 'White'. I bring this up because a lot of the welfare 'reformers' are covertly or even overtly playing the race card. They played the card so well, a lot of grassroots support (and even the general public) mistakenly think most people on welfare are Black (in the 1990's) or Latino (in the 2000's). Yes, minorities are disproportionally represented, but given that minorities are poorer, that means a perfect welfare system should have higher percentages of minorities--a point I'm sure most of the 'reformers' have forgotten to make.

(This 'White' majority won't hold true forever, of course, since U.S. is becoming less 'White'. And, one day, we'll figure out we're the same species, same sub-species. Plus, given that Europe is just the western appendage of Asia, that means, we're all 'Asians' or 'Africans'. No other 'race' is real. )

If you're angry about welfare and think its ranks are filled with Black/Brown abusers, you've been had.

By design, the people who want you angry forgot to tell you many important facts (not in quotes) about it.

Explain to me why in teh UK the council housing (subsidised housing) list has a 10 year waiting list but if a family claims asylum in the uk they are fastracked up the list and given property. A friend of mine is disabled, his flat he had was to small and the council refused to give him a larger place that enabled his wheel chair to be able to be used giving him more freedom than sat in a hospital bed where he is now homeless as the council evicted him from his flat because he had been in hospital for 6 months and now a polish couple are living in the flat and now they are telling him the only flat availiable is one thats even smaller than the one he had and wont be able to move around the flat and if he refuses it (even though he wont be able to get to the bathroom or kitchen and council refuse to pay for a carer to assist him) they will sign his rights away to any other support. The thing is I see alot of this as i had to produce a report on the suitability of that flat for the solicitors and care quality commission and disabled rights association and have opened and examined the can of worms that is the current policies of councils and government, the true fact is the council get paid more by central government for housing imigrants and asylum seekers than they do for housing British born citizens. More than 1 million housholds in the Uk now are reliant on food banks because they can't afford to pay for food from the slashed benefits etc. and 60% of these are disabled and vunerable people who can't get jobs because of their illnesses. To get the New PIP payment (repalced disabled living allowance) you must be able to walk 100m, dress yourself and cook at least one meal a day.if you can do them then you are not classed as disabled, even though they don't take into effect people with permanent injuries who can do the 3 but takes time to do and peoples mental state, illnesses that progressively get worst (since atos fucked up the whole system, they have to be examined once every 2 years and not any earlier if tey get worse) So you can see why I have my views as I am gettign the short end of the stick and also I'm in teh can of worms going through my mates case and that of many others.

An innocuous statement getting taken for "please pick this apart and attempt to politically debate with me because that's totally what I want to fucking read on a Sunday morning over breakfast," on a non-political internet forum - and this thread in particular which is meant for people to commiserate and talk about the things that piss them off instead of getting steeped in heavy debate which they neither invited nor wanted.

In other words, please in the future do not attempt to debate with me on politics, it is neither my area of interest nor my idea of what I came to this forum for.

It's one of the main reasons why I haven't read the thread for a couple of months now. it has been getting worse than Facebook drama and not stuff I like to read over when I get home from work.

It's a "Pet Peeve" thread to discuss things that annoy you not "Please pity me due to my Personal Issues" thread.
