I fucking hate my ISP so very much. I swear they are the worst, I'm beyond sick of having my connection throttled every goddamn day.

Luckily I made it back into town on D3 just in time before it took a dive (I only play hardcore now). Speaking of Diablo 3, the new patch is finally up and the game is, dare I say it, enjoyable now. loot 2.0 was a long time coming.

Would be nice if I could actually, you know, play the damn game though.



Or any of my other online games for that matter.

I don't know how it is in Canadaland, but I only have one choice for ISP in my area, and it sucks.

Our nations' bigger ISPs are too busy working on convincing the state legislatures not to let local governments roll out fiber or any other form of broadband access to improve Internet access performance or price.

AT&T had the gall to send me mail that it's rolling out TV programming in my area sans U-Verse, instead of rolling out U-Verse like it said it would. Yes, resell Direct TV, neglect its disconnect-10-times-a-night DSL, and save money by not bothering with real broadband.

Priorities, people. Priorities!

I'm with ROGERS. The only other mainstream option is Bell, and a friend of mine who works for them now says they've really cleaned up their act. He was also with Rogers before, and on their 2nd most expensive package to boot and yet he had the exact same issues I was having.

There's a 3rd major company actually, Shaw Media, but they're not available in Ontario since Rogers sued to deny them access (how the fuck they did that I have no idea, that's how fucking crooked the CRTC is... Rogers Tellus and Bell all tried to actively block WIND from opening up shop as well for cell phone services.)

There some other 3rd party guys like Teksavvy that some people say are OK but eh... idk. Besides, I like that all of Bell's packages have at least 10 MB upload speed which is fantastic for my streaming needs. And my buddy swears that ever since he switched he's had absolutely no problems (and to be clear, his family had been with Bell for years before and swore never to go with them again because their service was so horrible. They've "won" the worst cell phone bill in Canada on marketplace 2 years running too lol... guess they're cleaning up their act.)

Google ROGERS & Throttling though and see the stats for yourself...they're officially and objectively the WORST ISP IN THE WORLD FOR THROTTLING.

Yeah that's why I'm both happy and sad that Bill Moyers is down to 30 min a week now. I like him, but even just 30 minutes is enough to drive you to drink over how depressing the reality of the US' problems is, and how shit all is being done about it.

I have never been very political but when you date someone with a masters in political science who's currently working on a PhD on pretty much the same, it kind of happens. And the more I spend time learning about our government, the less I like it.

It's kind of annoying in the UK since one ISP, BT (British Telecom) basically has a monopoly here since all ISPs but one (Virgin Media if you are lucky enough to have Nynex lines on your street since they are fibre optic cables) is stuck using their lines. Since BT pretty much forces you to use shitty old copper cables if you use one of their rivals. Sucks if you live in an area like that.

Anyway Mal might have something similar going on in his area. It's a very easy loophole around anti-monopoly laws. "Hey other companies can exist! We just control all the infrastructure and refuse to upgrade it to fuck over our competition instead!"

I'd recommend The Twentieth Century by Howard Zinn. It paints a pretty clear picture of where our country has come from, and the parallels I can draw between then and now are just horrifying. The government has historically not been out to help the citizens of this nation, and nothing I see going on today leads me to believe that trend has changed dramatically since then.

Good. America needs to wake the fuck up already and realize that the country's being sold out by the politicians and super rich - in its current state the country is a Plutocracy very much on par with Russia in ways that are terrifying. The difference is there are mechanisms in place that can reverse these trends, but the window to get back on track is closing rapidly. All the really smart people having been talking about this for some time now (Bill had a great interview with David Simon about it a few weeks back) but there's no action being taken.

And the media is utterly complicit in all of this as well - it's really scary when you think about it. just a few decades back, all the media in the US was owned by about 50 companies. Now it's down to 6, and about to be 5 if the deal for Comcast to buy out Time-Warner goes through (which will have tremendous ramifications). People have more than enough shit to deal with in their daily lives I know, but you guys can't just bury your heads in the sand anymore. Democracy's not dead yet, but it's definitely on life support right now and hurting bad.

I also don't think it matters which party wins the white house next, unless it's someone who's genuinely not afraid to stir the pot. Obama turned out to be a complete pussy for reasons we'll likely never know. The only 2 people I'd trust at this point are Elizabeth Warren or Jesse Ventura, but there's also a good chance they'd whack Jesse if he ever got in and that would suck.





Should be mandatory reading in any civics class.
