I woke up to bright sun streaming in my window at 5:30 this morning. I am opposed to being up at 5:30 on Sundays for any reason.

Oh, nevermind. My phone is apparently retarded. It went back two hours last night. Really? Really? I take birth control, the kind you take every day at the exact same time. So several years of taking my pill at the same fucking time every day without ever missing a pill even by a minute thanks to accurate alarms was jacked up by a stupid phone that set itself back two hours instead of one. So now I took my birth control pill an hour later than I did yesterday, which means either I can't have sex for the next three weeks or my boyfriend and I have to use condoms unless we want a kid, which we don't.

I am so angry about this.

potentially more viable solution, via an Economist article: Divide the US into two time zones. Studies show that Americans base their sleep/wake schedules less on daylight now, and more on, you guessed it, television. We already have a two-zone schedule for TV, so other than changing some signs, it would make very little difference on the average American's life.

In my experience, you don't need to take the pill at the exact same time every day for it to be effective. I'm pretty sure I've seen a previous girlfriend pop one and say "Ready!", and I never got her pregnant.

Depends on which particular pill. The ones I am taking are progestin only, and those are required to be taken at the exact time every day. Ortho Micronor oral : Uses, Side Effects, Interactions, Pictures, Warnings & Dosing - WebMD

No matter what dosing schedule you use, it is very important that you take this medication at the same time each day, 24 hours apart.

I have been very responsible with it (and six years of no new babies suggests that it's working and that I'm taking it properly). This whole thing was totally beyond my control though, I mean whose damn phone goes back two hours for DST? I've never even heard of that happening before.

I guess. I was super pissed about it yesterday. I really hate things happening beyond my control like that. Told my boyfriend about the snafu and we know to be careful for the next few weeks, still annoying though.

Best friend's now wife was only on the pill (they didn't use anything else in addition) and now they're parents. Since then I preach the two forms policy.

My six year track record makes me feel very confident about my pill habits. From what I've read (and from what the ladies at Planned Parenthood tell me), most of the people who get pregnant while on the pill are not taking it properly, or not keeping up with the exact times if it's one of those pills. Even then, it is only 99.9% effective, and I'm comfortable with those odds.

From what I've read (and from what the ladies at Planned Parenthood tell me), most of the people who get pregnant while on the pill are not taking it properly, or not keeping up with the exact times if it's one of those pills. Even then, it is only 99.9% effective, and I'm comfortable with those odds.

If you and he are both comfortable with it, then go for it. Just be aware. She was religious about it and it still happened. That 0.1% can really bite you in the ass.

There are other methods, like IUDs or these little insert pills you can use (they're spermicides) other than condoms. Personally, I am not fan of condoms either. End up using more than one if you want to partake in oral activities halfway through, which is wasteful. And although I'm dating a Jew, I am arguably more cheap than he is.

Pet peeve: people getting upset with me when I didn't answer their e-mails. That they sent after I'd left for the night. Um ...
