Basically. Forcing people to pay for something as a government mandate never ends well - like the proposed 5 cent gas tax hike that was shot down around here about two weeks ago. I would have no problem with Obamacare if it guaranteed free health care for everyone. Unfortunately, capitalism is embedded so deep into our culture that they can't do it because of the corporate outcry. As soon as the government stops caring about corporations and starts caring about its individual constituents as humans then it might earn the trust of the general public again.

We as a culture need to abandon capitalism, or at the very least get over our infatuation with it. The logical end game of capitalism is everything becoming a monopoly. The people holding those monopolies are not going to be benevolent overlords.

As it stands right now, yeah our government isn't really looking out for its people because our entire culture has bought into the fantasy that capitalism is as great as the corporate world would have you believe. If corporations are people then we need to remember the fact that people are fucking terrible. Until we do that, the whole system is pretty much going to continue being a mess.

I think what Mezlo was referring to the quality of doctors in the US compared to elsewhere. Now, our healthcare system is ranked at 37th in the world but our doctors are considered to be first. Talent goes to where the money is.

At the same time, I can get %99.9 the same experience as the rest of you on ridiculously cheap national health care insurance, and I have my pick of doctors who have been educated at American schools with the brightest and best of our own. If I ever need the %0.1 professionals that aren't available here, I can, you know, to go America then.

You don't want to be the country with the number one doctors. You want to be the country where there are a flood of doctors who are just as competent, and far far more affordable so that when you do need treatment, you're not trading your life to prevent your death. And don't get me wrong, doctors here have their issues as anywhere will, but you know what? It's better to have a doctor with issues than no doctors at all.

So if you have an iPhone 4 and you update to iOS7, it's impossible to add a new contact to your phone. The keyboard options for empty text entry fields simply don't appear on my phone.

So basically I now have a phone that can't even be used as a fucking phone...

I don't get this new wave of super huge phones. I'm not even down with the Galaxy S series of phones, they're already too big. But this Samsung Note 2 is just freaking huge. What size pants pocket is that thing supposed to fit in? If I wanted a tablet I'd just buy a tablet.

A lot of people I know bitch about smartphones being flimsy and breaking all the time, but then I watch the same people constantly mistreat their phones. My phone is nearly two years old and it doesn't have so much as a tiny scratch on it because I am careful with it. The fact that people spend $500-$600 on these things and then toss them around like hackey-sacks baffles me. When people stop treating their phones like disposable commodities, they'll work longer.

Yeah accidents happen I know this, but I watch a lot of people abuse their phones then get mad when they break.

I have "Wrecking Ball" stuck in my head. >_< It's my fault for watching the video, but I wanted to see what people were talking about, and once I was there ... The standard expression is "like watching a train wreck in slow motion," but train wrecks are actually interesting and exciting. This was more like watching a gummi bear melt on a windshield. Similarly difficult to look away from, but kinda sad, and gross, and boring.

I dunno who could be offended by this other than people who were really attached to her image as Hannah Montana, but it seems like the uproar is bigger than that. Don't other musical artists do much more provocative and/or sexual stuff than this on a regular basis? And like ... better?

Parts of it reminded me of Sinead O'Connor's "Nothing Compares to You". Saw the other day that apparently Sinead felt the same way and is now suing her.
She has a good voice I think. Just needs better songs. Though it doesn't help that I pretty much hate the typical pop music crap that Mtv is in love with.
