Satori, since you're online now I'm gonna ask.

I have pain in my thumb, where the thumb joint kind of hits the rest of the hand (hard to describe), and it's not my wrist because I have full range of motion in my wrist without pain. Writing, turning doorknobs, turning the key in my car (ow ow ow) all hurt. I'm sure it's not broken because I'd hear cracking and it would hurt constantly not just when I move it.

That said, what can I do to make a sprained thumb heal faster? Just ice and try to rest it as much as possible?

It's a bit tricky without knowing exactly what you have done to it.
if the pain is only when the area has pressure applied to it/ doing tasks then it's more than likely a sprain. You are correct a break usually "should" hurt for more prolonged periods, Sometimes likened to a pulsating/throbbing pain. It's quite an odd area for breaks outside of the realm of sports unless you've trapped it in a door/drawer.
The smallest of fractures even ones that barely show up on x-ray can hurt like buggery.
Take your thumb and pointing finger of your "good" hand and in a gentle pinching motion start from the base of the thumb and give gentle squeezes around the thumb then along it also, Try and see if you can identify pain in a specific area.

My general guess would be its either a small break/fracture, sprain , or the bone or surrounding area has been bruised.
Most of those wouldn't require surgical intervention the exception being a fracture if it has deviated from it's natural position, I think you'd be in agony though so if it was fractured it'd be like a crack in a peice of wood. The examples I gave all heal naturally on their own, For me at the moment it's monday night/tuesday morning I'd say if its no better by friday to seek further investigation.

I'm not aware of your medical history so please take this part just as suggestive advice. I'd hate for anything adverse to happen.
Over here there's a common drug called Ibuprofen, it's a non-steroid anti-inflamitory and pain killer. I've just looked it up in my BNF and it's noted as being trademarked as Advil, Motrin and Nurofen. They might be available to you where you are.
If that isn't available to you try asking your pharmacist for an over the counter anti-inflamatory painkiller.
Take the recommended dosage making sure you've read the information and check you have no allergies.

Other than that hun, painkilllers and Ice and try to keep it slightly elevated just like you would with an ankle.

Yeah it's not too excruciating. I have taken over the counter drugs for now which seems to help. I honestly have no idea what I may have done to it. I haven't fallen or banged it ... so I'm sure it will heal on its own but if it doesn't go away soon I will see a doctor.

My pet peeve is the Creation Kit. When setting up something as small as an ambush, there are a surprising amount of ways to fuck it up. This goes for everything else in the dungeon, as well. My bandits are apathetic to the player, my dwemer machines start outside their ports, and nobody wants to follow their damn patrol routes unless they start enabled and are linked directly to it. Aaarrrggg.

My pet peeve? People who play music on their phones as they walk down the road, or my brother deciding that we all want to hear Eminem. In both cases, it annoys the heck out of me. If I wanted to listen to the music, I'd listen to it in my own time, in private. >.<

This morning I come in to no network connectivity. After some poking around I decide to take a look in the back room. The switch is lit up like a Christmas tree and everything downstream is getting zero traffic. So i jerry-rig something together so when the rest of the office comes in we'll have at least some semblance of functionality in the office so people can get their work done.
So I figure the switch is hosed. It's old as dirt so it wouldn't come as a surprise, so I go ahead and pick up a new switch from the local store and install that. Office is back up and running properly. Yay!

Now I'm sitting here poking around with the old switch and look at that, it's working again. Fucking hell switch, why must you be so fussy and only work after I've replaced you?

You would not believe some of the stuff we still have in the office despite my protests that we need to throw it all out. (Windows 95 CDs among other things)

Peeve: My co-worker wanted to see me grow out my mountain-man beard and I decided to oblige him, but it's gotten to that stage where it's just long enough to drive me crazy all day. I think I'm going to have to shave it tonight. I could do it back in college but now it just drives me up the wall after a certain point.

There's an optimum fuzziness that lasts for all of about two days and once you go past that it just gradually induces madness. The warm weather isn't helping any.
