Especially the Target commercials. Whoever thought that those two people singing badly and over-emoting would be a SUPER/OMG/AWESOME/GREAT marketing campaign needs to die.

Something that comes on my TV, which I enjoy watching while I'm dicking around on other internet sites and/or gaming because I generally can't stand to tie up my laptop to watch shows.

Also I'm too cheap for a DVR.

It finally happened. My birthday got so close to Thanksgiving my family cheaped out on me and rolled them together.

On top of this my sister and brother-in-law turned into dietary hippies and there will be no turkey and stuffing and they forbade anything starchy. My dad said he wasn't in the mood for a thanksgiving dinner. What the crap? We are having, oddly, steak and potatoes, though (and therein lies a starch contradiction!).

Not that I have a problem with steak and potatoes, it just seems unusual. Maybe this is why grandma left me all her cookbooks and kitchenware as part of my inheritance - she knew one day they'd all give up and I'd have to take over.

They also promised there would be cake. I can't trust that.

Easy fix. Considering you must know how to cook due to inheritance. Go out, buy your own turkey, cook it for yourself, stuff said turkey. Get any other Thanksgiving items you wish for yourself and call it your own birthday present for yourself.

What a Thanksgiving.

Tonight at approximately 2000hours, one of our own was taken from us. Some piece of shit lowlife came up behind our officer and shot him, ending his life and sending his family and this agency in a turmoil.

I was the Operations manager tonight. Boss Lady is an Operator on Wednesdays due to an early morning schedule on Thursdays, and she was on the radio that this incident took place on. I have never seen someone lose it so quickly - everything went from "perfectly fine" to "not even close to okay" in a millisecond. All I wanted to do was fall apart. I was shaking for nearly 45 minutes as I made the phone calls - I did not want to make these phone calls (thankfully, it was not my job to contact the family). But all I could continue to tell myself was that I couldn't fall apart yet, that my people needed me to be strong and lead them. The minute I walked into my apartment and locked the door, though, I lost it ... I stood in the doorway and cried for ... I don't even know how long.

How can people do this to each other? I know it comes with the job. I don't understand why it does. I know he knew the risk. I know that with how quickly it happened there was nothing I or anyone could have done. I know all this. But why. Why, why why why why. Why. I will never understand this senseless violence. This guy had family that flew in for Thanksgiving. They are now here for a funeral.

Fuck life.

Right now I am eating ice cream in front of the internet. I have to be back to work in 11 hours. I have no idea if/when I will sleep.

This is the second officer we have lost in two years. I will never in a million years understand why.
