Peeve: 10 Minutes before I had to clock out, boss decides to fuck with me and tell me he can't find my paycheck, only to send me off to turn in my work tools and come back to him with my paycheck in his hand. Almost took his fucking head off. You don't fuck with my money.

So here's a fun little update on the status of my Truck (my poor poor little truck). A little under a week ago I posted about a loud noise coming from under the hood any time I would turn the wheel in either direction. I had my mechanic buddy have a look at it when he was over the house the other day. As far as he tells me, the problem is without a doubt my Power Steering Pump. Thankfully he agreed to replace it for me at cost when he had time in his work schedule. In the meantime, it's supposedly fine to drive with it in that condition so long as I avoid making sharp turns or excessively jerking the wheel.

Fast-forward to today. I drive to work and tollerate the annoying noise from the pump. As I pull into the employee parking garage and flash my badge to the security reader, I notice a billow of smoke pouring out from under the hood and promptly park in my spot that's only a few feet away. I pop the hood and wouldn't you know it, I sprung a leak in one of my Radiator Coolant lines! How do I know this? Well... when the smoke parted I watched a small radiator line spewing coolant into the fan and then right back into the engine block and alllllllllll over the place.

YAY!!!

So after a few phone calls (one of which was to work to tell them that I was going to be in the parking garage for a while...) I talked things over with my mechanic buddy and he tells me that my water pump went.

Super.

He's still fine with fixing everything for me without a labor charge, but would like me to order the parts and have them shipped to his shop. In addition, now that it's more complicated and time-consuming... he can't do a thing for me until some time early next week.

I priced out the assembly kits and thankfully it'll only run me $15 or so for the Power Steering Pump kit and around $90 for the Water Pump Kit. I'm cool with that... and I'll likely still throw him some money for helping me out and saving me from getting taken to the cleaners at any other garage.

In the meantime, My truck is sitting in the parking garage... empty on Coolant and undrivable until I can spare the time to wait for AAA to send a Tow Truck out for me. Even then... I don't know where to ask them to take it. I'll probably have it taken back to my house and left in the back of the driveway until my bud has room at his garage for it.

Annnnnnnnd... I'm SOL on a mode of transportation for the next week.

What a day!

That awkward moment when a girl asks me (again) if I'm gay simply because I'm the only one that doesn't show any interest in her. Because that's the only logical reason not to pursue her like a dog amirite? LOL-est part was when she made it a point that she had been almost throwing herself at me and I didn't even react. And I seriously, honestly never noticed a thing, so she might've been pulling my leg there, who knows.

The funnest part was when I proceeded to explain that I was not gay, but actually much worse. Because I'm an Otakuwannabe-gamer.

Which means right now I'm more interested in spending time with my beautiful computer and 2D girls than I am in spending time with girls in the real. Simply because they just don't cut it anymore and probably never did. I mean I dated for almost a decade and actually had a very serious relationship (that I thought would end in marriage), before realizing what an unworthy chore it was and giving up on it altogether.

The blank expression on her face was pretty priceless and much better than last time I had to defuse a situation like this.

Well in this case Yyg, one can do many things. Plus you live in Boston so the redline is an option if it goes your way. I use it every year during Anime Boston. Surprised I don't see you. But can you afford to carpool or Taxi to work?

I list my location as Boston for the Same reason as anyone would list their Location as something general and non-specific. Privacy.

The redline would be an option if I wanted to go somewhere that sucked. The redline doesn't go anywhere worth note besides Harvard Square.

If you want to get anywhere interesting you take the Green line to Government Center/Fenway/Fanual Hall/Newbury Street/Boston Common/Park Street/State Street.

You could also take the Orange Line to Downtown Crossing/State Street/Forest Hills/Oak Grove/Malden Center and Medical Center (for the Theater District)

Alternatively you can take the Blue line for the Aquarium/Airport/Wonnderland/Orient Heights and Points West.

But sure... go ahead... take the red line to the only place it goes that's of note... JFK/U-Mass where the Bayside Expo Center is. They don't even hold Pax East there anymore... so who the fuck cares?

In other news. Although I appreciate the fact that you're trying to help... I implore you to only provide advice if it isn't already common knowledge or otherwise USELESS AND UNHELPFUL INFORMATION.

In before TAXI OR CARPOOL:

A taxi anywhere in Boston is a fools choice.

Carpooling is only an option for people who work regular 9-5 jobs and live near other people who work in the same place.

ALSO: Fun fact... not everything in this state is near a train station. There are those of us who live outside of the MBTA's web of transit destinations.

I suggest Murph coming to get you is a fun idea. But you have nobody on your shift who works your hours and drives? I am a receptionist and I take the WRTD home daily. Without it I'd be dropping near 120 dollars in my car every month. Which I used to do when I worked in Hartford. Going from Norwich to the state capital daily in a 1 1/2 hour drive is not fun on the purse/wallet.

If I lived in gaytown and would associate with people who wear yellow pants I'd totally drive Yyg anywhere he wanted to go.

But yeah in terms of solutions there really isn't one that's easy. You live too far for mass transit or carpooling due to your odd schedule. You aren't made of dollars so I'm going to guess that renting a car is out of the question in the interim. I mean, you're already looking to get this done at cost so that you can avoid having to pay outlandish fees that would get this situation resolved faster so I'm kind of at a loss.

It's no biggie. I'm looking at the best case/worst case senarios right now.

Best Case: I re-fill and top off my Power Steering Fluid and replace the broken line to my Radiator to seal the leak from my Coolant.

Cost: About $11.00 and the time it takes me to figure out how to detatch and reattach the replacement hose to the radiator

Worst Case: I need to replace the Power Steering Pump and the Radiator Pump completely.

Cost: $250.00 + Labor

Tomorrow we try the Best case option and cross our fingers for an easy out. If not... I wait until next week and my buddy will do the work I need done for me. In the meantime... my grandmother has been gracious enough to offer me her Lincoln Towncar for the week so I can get to and from work. She's such a sweetie. I love my gram.
