You just mixed sarcasm with sincerity in the same sentence. We can't be friends.

Honestly, if you lived in Austin I'd consider it. It's the one part of Texas I'm actually interested in. I have been feeling of late that I just don't fit in here in Cincinnati. And honestly, it's not even really "of late." Do you know that on that FB post of mine today not a single fucking local said a word? Not a word. I have quite a few local "friends" and even though I'm basically like "HAY GUYS I AM SUPER LONELY WON'T SOMEONE HANG OUT WITH ME" there was nothing but the sound of crickets from anyone who lives within the city limits. Meanwhile all of my "internet friends" who I've known online for years were like "DUDE I WOULD HANG OUT WITH YOU."

        Why Austin specifically?

It's very progressive. Has a great music/food/arts scene. It's sort of like Portland, but in the Southwest.

I'll start keeping tabs on BioWare Austin's job listings again.

You just described San Diego, except for the best weather in the US and beaches. Again, you'd be living closer to Ray, so... There is that drawback...

Yeah, but TM doesn't live in San Diego.

                  Resume builder sites.

                  Ugh. Just Ugh.

I've lost count of how many times I've had to dig up a new password or rebuild a resume because they can't keep their shit together. And I REALLY hate doing resumes. They're an inane piece of bullshit that hardly gets looked at to start with since getting a good job is just about knowing the right people and kissing their ass these days. And I'm really infuriated its hardly looked at most of the time. Why'd I bother?

It goes from yahoo to monster and all they seemed to have kept from all of that shit is the header and my zip code. That is seriously all that was left of the resume.

Oh well, if I'm going to do this all over again, i might as well find a way to make it amusing. It is now a snarky resume.

                  "Objective"

                  Find a job. Imagine that.

                  Temp Job description:

WPG sentenced me to two years of menial labor at Penn Engineering with no hope of being hired. I sorted bolts and fasteners all day because it put the full-timers to sleep.

It required lots of coffee, earplugs and nothing from my Journalism degree.

It must suck to not be able to work in the field of your own speciality, Especially one you've studied and trained so hard for. I can't imagine myself doing any other job than nursing. I guess I'm lucky because people will always be ill or injured. Allthough even jobs in my field are getting trickier to obtain. The competition is quite fierce for good positions in my hospital. It's getting to a point where people are taking additional courses to show they stand out in certain fields of medicine.I did it myself taking advanced accident and emergency trauma, Ward management, Advanced life support. Then when I applied for a charge nurse position I was told I was a great candidate but they were concerned that my experience and training was beyond what they are looking for and feared I'd get bored within the position due to areas of my skill that wouldn't be utilised.

I still don't quite get what it means. What happened to the days of being employed on what you can offer them and experience?

Its a nice way of saying someone older in a higher position fears how much more capable you might be.

Part of my problem was while I was good at what I did, I would have been kinda screwed anyway once the print media began to fade anyway. Its been on a downward spiral especially for the last four years and its never going to come back from that. I think I could still get a break on a gaming site if I really tried but they tend to hire young and oust you in your mid 30s and guess where I am? That's because the older management thinks this is still an entirely youth-based market which is so far from the truth its pathetic.

It at least explains why IGN is so laughable. Jessica Chobot's is living on borrowed time.

I need to find something there's always a market for, but not in the nursing, wedding or "sorry your mom died" kind of way. What's something gamers are always going to want and need no matter how much things change? That's the lines I'm thinking along now. I think in a matter of years most people are going to lose their hunger for physical media, game prices will go down and that's going to open up a lot more potential for merchandising little trinkets, odds and ends that are tied to people's favorite games more and more as days go forward.

I once thought about making a pullstring doll of those town guards in Skyrim. Just all those little things they say.

If only cardboard boxes and balloons were more resilient. They are by far the most entertaining things that I can bring home for my kids.

Cardboard boxes were the best. When I was little my Dad built a cardboard box fort in the basement for me and my sister. It was the best thing ever.

In my hometown there's a little mom&pop appliance store that used to put their Refrigerator boxes out back when someone bought one. My friends and I would check almost daily for them and add them to our growing fortress of doom. Shit we had a blast doing that. I don't think kids of the generations younger than us really appreciate the power of imagination.
