Vampires make for a more intelligent enemy than zombies. Besides, zombies can't be defeated, and Lincoln clearly grew up to become the president, so they'd have to do a lot of retcon on US history to have it all make sense.

I thought cutting off their heads is the generally accepted method of defeating them?

A zombie can be defeated. Zombies can not. Once the contagion is introduced, there's no beating the geometric progression of their numbers.

Perhaps in an area of limited habitation they can be contained with some amount of foresight, but according to the movies there's too many idiots unknowingly enabling their spread. See: 28 Weeks Later.

Are you suggesting that Armando cannot defeat Math?

Assuming you don't contain it early and nobody develops a vaccine, sure, but the same holds true of vampires.

Vampires are far more cautious and meticulous than zombies, and are renowned for their OCD. Any infestation would take forever, although it might be more difficult to detect. I'm not arguing against their deadliness so much as I'm arguing for their ability to make for a more interesting bad guy.

                    Fair enough, that makes sense.

Vampires takeovers and post-apocalyptic worlds huh? I think I've got a comic about that in here somewhere.

                      Bah, I can't find it.

It made a very interesting argument against a vampire takeover however. Simply put, vampires are predators and predators need to be outnumbered by their prey or they'll go hungry.

Zombies should have the same problem as long as you're going for the virus angle and not dark magic. If you waited a week or two most of them should die of starvation and dehydration.

Vampires have a lot more restrictions than zombies. Between only being active at night and not being able to enter your home without an invitation, there's a pretty huge swath of the population that they are unable to infect at any given time. Zombies are always active and they don't even have to aim for your neck to infect you.

Vaccine, yes, but that's out of the scope of a zombie hunter's repertoire. You couldn't make an action movie about defeating zombies. At best you could make a movie in which the cure already exists as a mcguffin for a zombie hunter to deliver to a location for reproduction or dispersal via action-packed romp across the countryside.

You mean they DON'T sparkle when they're exposed to sunlight?!

I still say realistically zombies can't sustain themselves long. If you recon they don't sleep then they'll last even less time since they're not getting any time to regenerate and they're exerting themselves more often on top of that.

Think of them as giant, retarded hummingbirds.

Also I'm not an expert on vampire lore but Dracula could walk about in sunlight (just not use most of his powers) and got around the whole invitation issue by hypnotizing his victims into inviting him in. Bram Stoker's Dracula is just about the only piece of vampire fiction I've read though.

Going by older canon, zombies can lie dormant until there's food. I'm not sure if new school zombies kept that trait since they tend to be relatively newly created. No viral zombies laying around in tombs for hundreds of years.

And again, a zombie can degrade and fall apart as long as it infects one or more people before becoming nonfunctional, and there's clearly a tremendous amount of tissue damage they can sustain without it bothering them much. Inasmuch as one can tell whether a zombie is bothered by something beyond its basic state of zombieness.
