Really hit bottom today. I've been emotionally unstable for weeks, but last night I had a fight with my wife that just sent me spiraling. I spent the last three hours just laying on the ground outside coming up with ways to kill myself without leaving a scene and a mess for my family to clean up. It's probably been a decade since the last time I seriously thought about suicide.

Not cool man.

I have no real wisdom to offer on the situation, but it worries me to see you like this and I am concerned.

Not sure I actually need to tell you this but it's ok to feel like that. Anyone in a position of responsibility will from time to time have a bad enough day with enough pressure built up to warrant the consideration of ending the holodeck program. Specially so when there's close family involved who is making your life miserable while completely ignoring reason.

Thing is depending on the type of relationship you have it may either be ok with a good talk to patch things up or it will be a sign of an (increasing) loss of respect for each other, at which point you'll have make a choice, a real one. Either try to repair things and move forward or think of a more practical exit than leaving a corpse behind and move on. Because let's face it, you can do more stuff when you are able to move (even if you are a zombie at the time) than you ever could being 3 meters under.




Either way death is not a bad thing unless you fear it for some silly reason, but using it to escape problems is. Which, once you've cooled down a little you will see for yourself. Just don't be afraid of making and facing the drastic changes should things are unrepairable. But hopefully you'll be able to find a good solution once both have calmed down.

@TM: I strongly encourage you to find someone to talk to about your problems. Anyone. Even talking about it with total strangers will help you feel better (remember that Reddit thread about people's darkest secrets?) I've never been that far down but I did have a pretty dark period in my life and talking to my friends about it is probably the only thing that kept me sane. You can always hit me up on Skype if you ever want to talk. At the very least, don't make any major decisions while under stress. That never pans out well.

Ok mate, take a deep breath. Firstly if there is any chance you think you may go through with anything, get your ass to ER, they will be able to help. 2ndly, call your DR, you need to talk to someone to find out whats triggering this or causing the downturn. Thirdly you know theres a place you can talk about anything with people who understand. Message the forum admin at the site you know I'm on to get to the over 18's section, I will give my blessing if you mention me, then you can freely spill out and get some friendly support, or just a secure place where few people can access that you can post more comfortably, sometimes getting it down on paper, in the forum like that helps. The thing you have to remember is you don't need to go through this blip on your own.

I don't want to add too much to the dog pile, but I want to mention that you shouldn't ever be afraid to seek help. If you're not feeling like yourself, it's important that you take inventory and identify what in your mind doesn't belong. Reflect on the good days, and know they aren't out of reach. Medications, like the SSRI Lexapro, can bring the normal feelings back again. Look forward to your goals, and see the risk to them in struggling to live your life with the unwanted emotions.

I've had very similar experiences, and I'll readily share them if anybody would like me to.

You can message me if you'd like. I have some experience with counselling and have suffered with depression myself.
I can come accross as blunt or bitchy but I'm quite understanding.

Thank you everyone for your support. Sorry for causing alarm. I don't think I was in any danger. There's still a ways to go between thinking something drastic and actually doing it. I'm doing better today. Still down, but not nearly that far.

As for talking about what's bothering me, there's either nothing to say or much more than anyone really wants to read. My life is really not that bad at all, and I'd be ashamed to complain about it; I just have very self-defeating thought patterns that lead me to be continually disappointed in myself and question my self worth. Maybe when I'm feeling more up to it I'll type a better explanation to get it out of my system, and anyone who's really that interested in my problems can read it then.

Remember: There's always someone worse off than you, but that doesn't make your problems stop mattering. Kinda like how saying "Hey, it's not like it was genocide" won't help you when you're being charged for murder.

It sounds to me you could benefit from CBT Cognitive behavioral therapy - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia to help you stop putting yourself down or thinking the worst of situations.I've done a deeper version called EMDR CBT therapy which looked at getting over a trauma from my past which had restricted my thinking and seriously lowered self beleif ad conciousness which had put me in a hole with steep sides, now the sides are shallower and I am slowly climbing out of the hole.
