Am extreemly fucked off at the moment. As of today in the 6 months I have been out of work i have applied to over 120 jobs. Todays job I applied to had already gone (even though it was released at 9am this morning) it went to an "internal" candidate but by law they have to advertise, so basically they advertised a job that noone had a chance of getting. Now Job seekers allowance is to be stopped for me, which basically means I will be out of pocket by £300 a month because I have been claiming for 6 months the new rule now is they will stop it as they beleive that being out of work for 6 months you are "not trying hard enough" I'm sorry I have a limited number of jobs I can go for due to my spine or that I've applied for well over 120 jobs and the reason i don't get them is I'm to far away or I'm to qualified and their scared I would take their job off them or with reception and admin jobs, I'm male. What does this mean? Well with my limited savings, I have 4 months before I'm homeless or forced to live with parents which then you might as well put a bullet in my head. I was doing so well improving my confidence, getting treatment for my spine (finally) and going through the therapy I had to have an now this. one step forward, 2 steps back.

Its dire mate, but the government being a conservative one is doing their usual, pay more to rich taken from the poor. even disability is an absolute minefield now with this new ESA scheme they have introduced, if you can move yourself unaided for 50-100m in one go, can use a computer and sit at a desk they deem you viable to work and therefore not eligible for any payments for your disability.

That blows Jarre, I hope you get out of that situation soon. Reminds me of something I saw on Reddit the other day.

You know how he is about hanging out with girls for fun now, you know that if you stay near him he will only try to use you for his own amusement again, you'll think you can win him back, and wind up making yourself cry more.

This. "Winning someone back" implies you did something wrong, or that you're not good enough for him. There's nothing for you to apologize for and not much you can do to change him. Don't fall into that trap or you're going to end up hurt.

Can't you go to a social workers place to try and help them, help you find a job? I did that with my social worker because of my bad back. Your back is basically a disability limiting what you can do, so you should be able to get it.

I've been out of work for 13 months now and over that period I have sent off applications of the rate of roughly one a day.

I've been to a grand total of 12 Job Interviews in that time, only one where I was actually offered a job but it was for a company that was running a multi level marketing scheme that was dangerously close to pyramid selling (and also mysteriously vanished about a month after I declined the job and reported it to the Police) so even if the money was good it would have been a horrible idea to even get involved given how flat out illegal the stuff they were pulling was.

Honestly I don't even hear back from most places that I apply for. I must only hear back from 15% of the applications I send. The ones that I do hear back from tend to just be sending form e-mails with a generic "I'm sorry but we won't be inviting you to an interview" message or they set up a "Phone Interview" which is just a polite way of "We're not hiring you but we're too much of a bunch of fucking cowards to flat out tell you so we're going to rig an interview you will always fail so it looks like your fault and we don't look like bad guys."

A few of them actually say why and it's always one of three excuses:

1) I lack experience (How the fuck am i supposed to GAIN experience if you won't hire me?)
2) I'm overqualified (How the fuck am I going to gain experience for a job I'm qualified for if you won't even hire me for an entry level position so I can work my way up?)
3) I live too far away (How the fuck am I supposed to afford a car if I don't have a job?)

Oh and then there's the jobs that get filled internally and they're just taking job applications from the unemployed as a formality. "Letting the peasants think they're getting cake but it's really soul crushing despair" is what I call it because the HR wankers who talk to you just love to get the hopes of people who are thrilled and excited to finally get a job interview then crush their souls for shits and giggles because they were too much of a bunch of cowards to tell you.

I've even been to an interview where it was obvious that this was going on so I asked: "This position has been filled hasn't it?". They suddenly stopped, there was a huge, uncomfortable pause for a moment, the woman in charge ended the interview and thanked me for coming and one of them (not so) subtly called security. I was immediately shown the door and escorted from the building by security so I couldn't tell anyone else in the waiting room. I actually had an IRL friend in that room who joked that I must have punched someone out when I saw him later .

Okay I don't use hate as a word. It's too strong and it has too much emotion behind it. But with having to put up with rejection after rejection after them, I'm really starting to hate Human Resources workers. Seriously they can go fuck themselves. Half of the ones you talk to look down on you with some smug self superiority because they think they're controlling your future and the rest don't even know a fucking thing about the job they're supposed to be interviewing you for. Not one of them seems to remotely live in the real world and not one of them has a spine to tell you to your face that you aren't wanted.

That is what really upsets me. Rejection doesn't bother me, sure my confidence will take a dent if you don't way why but I'll move on will hardly lose any sleep over it. Flat out lying to my face because you don't have the spine to tell me there and then you don't want to hire me...Yeah I find that insulting, hurtful and incredibly offensive.

Its so true mate and everything you have posted their I have had to deal with.

Due to my spine the job search for me is Architecture (what I'm qualified to do) where the rejections are mostly "I'm to far away" (even though on my app I have put prepared to relocate at short notice)
Then the job centre are forcing me to look at admin jobs and reception jobs.

The rejections from reception jobs have mostly been "because I'm male, don't have the "front of house appearance" or your to over qualified. all those 3 are stealth discriminations.
And as for the admin jobs its mostly "I'm to overqualified" where the middle managers are scared I'd do the job well and show them up where I could take their jobs easily. Thats not me being big headed, its just fact.

Even the job centre has told me to thin down my CV so I don't look as qualified, basically telling me I have to "dumb myself down"

Most applications I hear nothing and I chase everyone. i have had some snobby twats tell me that if I hadn't heard anything it means you don't have it, well sorry I am a professional and you always phone up to see how you did and get any feedback to help you progress and improve.

Have you considered starting an online business? I say online because the investment would be minimal. You can advertise your services for design and advisory services in places like Craigslist.

Although I have no idea how things work over there, here most professionals either start their own businesses or end up as taxi drivers or something unless they know someone in the industry that can help them get in. Admins get jobs more often of course because they can pretty much work on any industry regardless, but specialists have to resort to starting their own businesses or else. And if the job market is as bad as it sounds maybe some 3rd world tactics may work. <_<;

Peeve: Found out that my niece, whom of which I haven't seen in 2 1/2 years, who is now 17, is 21 weeks pregnant, and has Thyroid cancer that's growing. Due to the pregnancy, they can't do anything until she does give birth, or have an abortion. She wants to keep the baby, and she isn't due until the end of July.

All this, while dealing with drama with my friends, trying to help my GF calm down from drama in her life.

My friend who survived thyroid cancer would undoubtedly punch me in the throat for saying this, but if it's any consolation, thyroid cancer is the least awful form of cancer. It's relatively easy to treat and has a high survival rate. O'course ... it's still cancer ...

I am unsure. They didn't give us any details about the cancer other than just dropping it on us...

It's possible the tumors are stable and benign, and a delay of a few months in treatment won't be too great a risk. I'm dangerously close to talking out of my ass at this point, but it might not be as dire as it sounds.
