Ugh, took 3 days off from work to make a 5 day weekend. Thought I'd be well rested and ready to go back to work. Damn was I wrong. It's like the sky fell while I was away, and everything that could've gone wrong went wrong. So now everything's all tense at work because we're all currently dealing with a situation we're really not used to and my boss is pissed and doing her silent treatment thing.

Japan passed a law outlawing children from buying funny money for social networking games under the pretense it was encouraging children to gamble. I can think of people who hold the credit card and can teach them not to gamble. They're called parents.

Gamers on various sites came out in support of it. I facepalmed.

In the 1970s, the state of New York tried to outlaw early arcade games and pinball machines under a similar reason, which could have effectively destroyed the video game industry before it started. It didn't pass because no physical goods or payout occurred.

So if these gamers had thier way - mostly just out of batshit hate for social gaming - they wouldn't have a hobby.

Keep in mind that in Japan, all gambling is illegal. Officially, anyway, obviously there are plenty of Pachinko parlors working under shady means, and people bet on mahjong all the time, but you're not going to find any casinos on the island.

Personally, I think "gambling" is a weak legal ground, but honestly, stopping children from buying virtual goods seems perfectly reasonable; it's comparable to American laws preventing exploitation of children through extremely misleading advertisements.

Finally went Dentist today and apparently if my tooth gets any worse I need to have a root canal

Also about 5 years ago at my old Dentist before they went private, I was going to be getting braces. I ask about them today & if I want them I have to pay £3000

Hell, when they remade Pokemon Gold/Silver for the DS they removed the slot machines and replaced it with some Sudoku/Minesweeper-type game. It's not like that virtual money costs real world money and all you can do with it is...buy some Pokemans.
