I do remember getting a brain freeze at one point which was so bad I passed out, then again eating a half-gallon of icecream non-stop for 60 dollars will do that to you.

I think that Dak meant that he thought that Melody meant that Melody was eating ice cream non-stop for 60 minutes, and then proceeded to pass out for an unknown amount of time from the brain freeze.

I don't remember how long I was eating, all I know is that I put the ice cream down, went to get up and then passed out, woke up in the hospital with an IV in me and a doctor was like, "Woman you can sure as hell eat." >_> Those paper gowns are itchy....I guess they had to pump my stomach because I ate so much.

I nearly had one of those "twitch' moments with my brother-in-law today, more or less for saying something that sounded more like he was trying to score points with my folks than just be himself. You know, that thing where people suggest that video games are pointless and not productive, even though you could say that about a lot of things in life?

Books, TV, movies, watching sports - just a few things off the top of my head that are actually even less productive as they don't actually engage your brain to interact at all.

I understand it under the context of him being busy with work and deferring to things that can be appreciated in the background when he works at home - TV shows and such can be that - but when its coming from someone that probably plugged more hours into Diablo II than I ever have Skyrim, it comes off a little disingenuous. Its best not to diminish anyone's hobby as pointless and non-productive as it makes you sound thoughtless and insensitive.

I mean, its not just like I fucking zone out when I play this shit.

Well that's a matter of opinion and how people see what activities they like as "interactive" reading for you may not be your cup of tea. A bookworm like myself enjoys reading and very much interacts, it may not be a physical interaction just as much as turning the pages. But mentally engaging is something differently, did you ever think of that when you spoke with that person? Diablo seems to be both considering the amount of hours you put into it. Some people who play Arcade Machines get a most lovely interaction out of it. In a matter of speaking it all comes down to perspective, people see things differently and some things such as interaction comes in different forms to other people. But that's just me, oh look the sun is coming up.

I actually used that argument against my parents once....

They said that I play too many video games, and it doesn't help you accomplish anything in life.

I said they read too many books, and reading the books they read don't help.

They looked at me and said video games use up electricity that costs money, books can be re read, and don't cost money to be re-read...

Well maybe its not true that books don't engage you like games do. They're not interactive, but you are forced to use words to construct what places and people look like. Aside from that its pretty similar to watching a show or movie.

All recreation is valid recreation to me. Saying video games are not productive is like saying dancing is "gay." You're really just throwing up a wall against something you don't understand, may not be good with or have to potential to embarrass yourself within. They more you say such things the more you're saying you're unwilling to learn or change.

My family only accepts games under certain conditions. When its Wii Sports or Wheel of Fortune, its a valid social activity - but me playing Zelda or Skyrim is asocial, not productive and a waste of time. Yay for double standards. Because we totally don't have all these unique experiences and stories that we share about Skyrim. And nobody ever writes game guides, does forum posts, blogs or podcasts for the enjoyment of others regarding video game. All just a waste of time and we should cease doing it, I guess.
