Turbo tax does that with very little effort and for free! Hahaha. God I can't wait for my tax return this year, I will pay my dad back and put a good chunk into paying off student loans.

I will not be getting a return this year (or ideally, any year), because I long ago figured out that it's better for me to hold onto my own money rather than allow the government to hold it for a year and make money with it before giving it back to me. Took a while to figure out the right amount to have them take out without having to pay, but it pays off (for me, not them), in the long run.

If you want to listen to music on your headphones at your desk, more power to you. Almost all of us do it & it's a good way to keep your sanity.

If, however, you're going to listen to music on your headphones, please make sure your headphone jack is plugged all the way in. If I can hear the rhythm and an ever-so-slight bit of the tune, I'm going to sit here trying to figure out what you're listening to instead of being able to concentrate on what I'm supposed to be doing.

I'd put on my own headphones, but I learned long ago that I can't proofread effectively and listen to music at the same time.

So a friend of mine who's been saying he wanted to get a tattoo apparently went and got one ... without me. We'd both talked about it, and I had said that I really wanted to get another one, and that when I had the money, we should both go, and anyone else in our circle of friends who wanted one. Well, I found out via Facebook (since I hadn't seen him a couple of weeks) that he got his tattoo already, and I'm kind of pissed off that after all the talking we did about going together, he didn't even ask me.

I mean shit, we both know I don't have the money, but would it have killed him to ask just to be nice or something? I mean as far as anyone knows, I could have had some extra cash somewhere, or could have borrowed some. Something.

I'm really tired of being forgotten by everyone. My parents for the past 30 years, friends in grade school, high school, and college, and even now. Can I be important to just one goddamn person? Please?

Forget TurboTax. I'm going to do another VITA internship this spring (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) -- we do tax returns for free, INCLUDING state. I know in years past TurboTax either didn't come with state returns as part of the free package, or they didn't allow multi-state returns. Either way, for my family it means we have to pay since we have passive income outside the state we live in, meaning we have to file 2 state returns.

I'll be the first to admit we may not get you the most refunds possible, but for a free service with face-to-face interactions (IE, with people who know what they're doing for the most part, and the resources to find an answer if they don't know right away) it can't be beat. Plus, you're helping college students (who are required to do it as part of at least one of their classes) learn taxes and practical student-as-practitioner experience that can be taken to their field, normally accounting.

In any case, expect to see me posting in this thread about the same subject mid-march or so, saying why it sucks so much

I'm in Florida. No state taxes. :D I used TT last year and it was so painless and they got me a buttload of money back so I was definitely happy.

Reading some fanfictions to pass the time at work, and I've come across a peeve:

Writers who write a muti-chapter story and mark it complete at a major cliffhanger, prompting you to go find the sequel. The sequel that is never complete when you find it. I don't follow stories that are currently being written, I want to read ones that are done. That is why I looked for ones with the "complete" tag. I'm not talking "mostly complete but with an opening for a sequel," I'm talking "left absolutely no resolution whatsoever."

That shit is annoying. It wasn't particularly riveting, and I can live without knowing how it ends (as predictable as most are, I'm pretty sure I already know), but seriously, just write a whole fucking story or don't write at all.

The price of gyms is on my nerves at the moment. Either a place is cheap, but I have to sign myself up for a contract that will last the rest of my life, or it's expensive, but I'm not locked in. Plus, all of the gyms nearby (walking distance onry - if I have to drive, I will find reasons not to go) are the pricey (tho nice) ones. Anywhere from $58-$175/month. Obviously I am not looking at the higher end there. Argh.

Murphie, I wonder if you might be able to enroll at a local community college and use their facilities. I know mine only requires you take like one class every couple years to stay a student; and it has plenty of fitness and just totally freaking random classes.
