The one good thing about it is that I have a line of communication with the people I used to work with and were friendly with at my last job (and a few from high school - very few), but that I wouldn't necessarily want the phone numbers of. It's a low-key way to keep in touch with arm's length friends.

Facebook advocacy. Especially the kind that exploits guilt. For example, something a family friend posted on her status:

"Every person has 1000 wishes, a cancer patient only has one: to get better. I know 97% of you won't post this as your status, but my friends will be the 3% that do, in honor of someone who died of or is fighting cancer."

Lotta guilt in there for something that is just a step above a Twitter entry...

I've seen this come up on Flipnote Hatena every now and again (that flash animation thing Nintendo has for DSiWare). Instead of posting an entertaining little cartoon, people will toss up a crappy drawing of the earth and ask for star donations if you care about the environment.

I'm sure this happens on YouTube and other things as well, people will do anything for a rate-up. Even things like claim their parents just died.

People freaking hitting their HDD based computer while the disk is spinning (well and in pretty much any other situation), all this while complaining about suffering from corrupt files and disk errors "all the time now".

Best part? When I get so freaking annoyed and can't help but to go tell the person that that's precisely what's causing the problems and how they should stop-hitting-the-poor-PC-and-to-get-a-new-drive-to-move-all-the-remaing-working-files-to, it is somehow interpreted as me hitting on them.

I mean maybe I missed a memo, but I seriously don't see how an annoyed "stop hitting the poor pc already, bitch" expresion on my face can be interpreted as an "I like you babe, let's have dinner" one.

Even more annoying are those chain letter things you see in comments. You know: "Post this comment in X different comments sections and you get a wish/to meet your true love in X days/avoid getting brutally raped and murdered while you sleep in X days"

Yea... That's why I changed to facebook, and invited only people I know in real life. If some random stranger tried to add me without even trying to talk to me, I ignore them.

My philosophy regarding social networks is that you loose touch with people you've met naturally (or by design)... it's part of life. Why do I want to be a part of something that especially helps those people I don't want to remember find me, like that woman in her 60s I went to school with that had the hots for me? That's something I've been trying to burn from my mind for the last 4 years.

I'll admit I wish I could catch up with some of my friends from the places I used to live, but I've moved on, I'm sure they have too.

To be honest I have facebook to appease the people who whine about losing touch with people and never update it. Keeps them happy and I save money on aspirin. Everyone wins.

I wasn't referring to you. I'm talking about a classmate here in GB, literally 65 years old, retired, and was physically attracted to me... keeping in mind I was 23 at the time. I'm not talking about being just friends. She wanted to be friends with benefits. She was nowhere near being attractive. It was actually incredibly disturbing.

I love how I am very careful at my job, by not spilling any concentrated sulfuric acid or glacial acetic acid on me while prepping for a lab for example, then no less than 60 seconds after I get home, I smack my head on a cabinet door.

Why the hell don't Christmas ornaments come with the goddamn hook thingies? Get all the fucking way home and start (to finish) putting up my tree, and I find that there's no goddamn hook thingies. FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU-

I will be stealing some paper clips from work tomorrow to remedy this, but shit. Who thinks about buying hook thingies when you kind of assume that they're just included?

I have just learned over the years that they generally aren't. But I have many hooks because one box lasts a while.

My RL peeve for today, and just about every day for the past 30 years, is my daughter. She has issues. I know that I should not feed into her bullshit but if I stand up for myself then she cuts me off from my grandchildren. My grandson just lost his father and she isn't helping him deal with that at all. She had him for 2 days after he came home and never talked to him about it, she brought him to me for me to talk to him about it. I know thats my job but its HER job as a parent to help her son get through this too. So now I'm cut off from my grandkids yet again because I didn't kiss her ass and stood up to her. Whoever tells you that parenting gets easier when they move out is FULL OF SHIT!

I find that a lot of people are unhappy when you stop buying in to their bullshit, because that same bullshit is usually the backbone of a lot of excuses from the same person.
