Finally, I'm curious why people who are from out of the state insist on driving significantly faster than anyone else on the freeway. As TGM can attest to, cops around us have enough places to hide, and there are even areas that you wouldn't even THINK about speeding, lest you get a nasty ticket. It drives me nuts to have people riding my ass when I'm already 10 over, and see them fly off in the distance. In those instances, I wish a cop would pop out behind the tall grass that grows in the median.

As someone who has lived in the same place for the past fourteen years, I'd like to say two things:

1- Johnson County is basically the only place in Kansas with hills.

2- Nobody from Johnson County can drive. AT ALL.

I've lost track of the amount of times a Johnson County driver has nearly killed me. I've gotten bored of having my life flash before my eyes. Last time it happened I was just like "Oh, hey, impending death. This isn't the worst way I could go."

In the driver's defense, they were only intoxicated on prescription drugs. Then again, everyone in Johnson County gets their drugs by prescription, so I guess it doesn't really make a difference.

Well Feba it was kind of an inside joke with KoZ. We call people, from Illinois, Flatlanders in WI....and we are not too fond of their driving skills. I may have more contact with them though since I live in the southeast portion of the state.

If they're slowing you down that much, find another roadway you can use, or petition for a bike lane to be added (trust me, it's a possibility. You'd be amazed where you can find the space. I live near a very, very narrow road that's planned for expansion into a four lane. I see at least one place where it looks like they'll be on someone's porch. But the city already has it completely planned out.). Or drive a smaller vehicle yourself so that you have room to get by them. There's no responsibility, nor should there be, to go fast on the road, so long as you aren't intentionally or recklessly impeding traffic. But I promise you that that bicyclist isn't going down a narrow road with no bike lane because he enjoys having people driving thousands of pounds of metal (many of whom are plainly incompetent) right behind him, wanting to go faster. There's a reason he's taking that road.

Not every city is New York, LA or Atlanta. No one rides a bike to work where I live.

Where I live is a small slice of suburbs between farm lands and the city. The farm lands mean there are only one or two roads to choose from and as for the city, weil, Winston-Salem was never planned well uptown or downtown. We're a smorgasboard of tobacco and furniture companies and then a mess of art centers.

You wanna ride your bike? Go to Tanglewood or another park. Go out to Wake Forest or stay in your fucking neighborhood. The farm roads out of town are pretty sparse when it comes to traffic and they're nice long stretches of road. A busy city road is not the place to be living out your Lance Armstrong fantasies. If joggers and skaters can make it a point to find another place to work out, cyclists can, too.

And Calvary Baptist Church just so happens to be a five ton gorilla, there will not be rezoning for the sake of a bike lane. That place isn't just a church, its a fixture, lots of business built around it just to benefit from the traffic they could get when that place lets out. I have to admit it does make my eating choices rather diverse for an area less than a mile from my apartment.

That church does not roll over, it only expands. Homes that got moved of near it were properties bought up for expansion instantly. Some of it turned into softball and soccer fields, another part a tennis court even tracks people can go run or a place for the Boy Scout to meet. Its kind of a big deal and has provided space to attract health nuts. I don't think with all that they're going to be asked to give up some sidewalk space for a bike lane, that place has done its part for the community.

Oh god, I hate LA so much. I went there to see my girlfriend and nearly got ran over by a bus when I had the right of way on the crosswalk (walk sign). The city is way too big and densely packed, I'm used to parks and trees and stuff like that. And to stay on the current topic, there are some people on bikes here that like to ride in the middle of the road and go at a leisurely pace. I don't mind if you're riding a bike as long as you're pedaling like your life depends on it, if you're in the middle of the road.

You wanna drive your car? Stay in your little suburb, or better yet go out on the interstate. Better yet, just fucking buy Gran Turismo. City streets aren't a place for you to be getting your speed fix. If you can demand other people get off the road, you should lead by example.

Pet peeve: People who claim to love freedom and their rights, but then are willing to encroach on other people's rights because they find them unpleasant. Sure, there are far more serious examples of this, but this is just another one. Doesn't really matter what right it is; the way people get away with acting like they like freedom juuuust until it makes them uncomfortable is just plain silly.

Oh, and as examples, here's some things I dislike, but don't intend to take away from anyone:

* Smoking. Sure, ban it in public places, that's fine, prevents injury to others. But criminalizing it outright I wouldn't agree with.
* Public breastfeeding. Dear god I hate seeing this, but criminalizing it is equally wrong.
* For that matter, public nudity. I realllllly dislike seeing some of my neighbors shirtless, but it's a silly thing to criminalize.

About the only modern right I'd want taken away is the right to bear arms, and that's not so much because it's out and out a bad idea as that it's not effective anymore. The Second Amendment was a great idea when it was created, but as America has been subdued and domesticated (I'm talking about the land here, not the people), they've turned from an important tool into a liability. Guns purchased for self-defense are more likely to injure the person that bought them or their family than any attacker, and so on. The idea of the people owning guns so they can resist the government was a good one in the 1800s-- a peoples' revolt could easily have overpowered the government at that time. In modern times, the only way to upload that idea would be to allow the people to purchase and own heavy artillery, bombs, nuclear weapons, tanks, fighter jets, and so on. All that would get us are corporate armies, and very very dangerous crazy people. There is no way any amount of us can fight the US military with weapons that would be reasonable to allow people to own. The only real use left is hunting, which I'm not saying is bad, but it's not worth the collateral damage in an age where we no longer need to hunt to survive. There isn't anyone in America who'll be saved from starvation if they have a rifle and find some game. That wasn't the case a couple hundred years ago. And by the way, I'm only listing the reasons why I think that right can go, mainly it just comes down to "My rights end where they infringe on another's", in that the right to gun ownership causes great injury to others' right to life. I'm not going to have an argument on gun politics, and I'm not looking to excite anyone, merely explain that exception.

And no, cyclists aren't infringing on your rights. We all have a right to operate a vehicle on public roads, with the exception of the interstate (Don't forget, the interstate highway system has its roots in the military). You've never been promised a right to operate your vehicle at a speed you appreciate, at the posted speed limit (remember pretty much ALL areas require you to reduce speed below the posted speed limit when conditions are unfavorable), or at any other speed; especially not at the expense of another vehicle.

Also, some food for thought: Cyclists may temporarily slow you down when they're out riding, but people who use bicycles for transportation are far more likely to also use ride pooling or public transportation when they're not on their bikes; whenever they're doing that, they're saving a car on the road, and thus lessening traffic. The net effect of a cyclist could be that your driving time is shorter, but you simply cannot see that.

Old: Barbers, stylists, whatever you call your hair cutting people. Yes, I know I have fucking awesome hair. You don't need to tell me five times a visit. At least today I got one that shut the fuck up most of the time, instead of trying to chat about shit I don't care about.

I'm not over there, but I got a text a little while ago that she was causing shit, and we were supposed to go out ... yeah, I get the feeling that's not going to be happening tonight.

And yes, she does this a lot. Someone's having a little trouble letting go.

Getting so drunk during the day that you miss the entire evening's festivities, because you just needed to close your eyes and lay down "for a minute or two." I woke up at 9 this morning, a full 12 hours later. I hear the party was fun though!

My GF's family's idea of fun always involves alcohol and occasionally drugs. She wants me to have a good time with them, but there are things I'm just not going to do 'for fun'. It's not like she's willing to do these things either, but she doesn't care if they do them. I, on the other hand, don't want to be around people like that.
