I sit in a row of three desks against the back wall, and the desk between me and my one coworker (who I hate, btw) is empty. This woman just sits there and watches me work at the end of the day. We (along with one other person) are a team who takes on several stacks of paperwork to go through and basically we pick it up in piles. If someone has a big pile on their desk while the others are done, we should be taking some of that pile and working it so that we can all finish sooner. But when I have work, she just sits there looking at me while I go through it. And she literally sits there staring at me. It drives me fucking insane.

I even told her today that if she doesn't want to help she can clock out and leave. I'm not the supervisor but I feel like it sometimes. And she won't leave unless the supervisor tells her to. If we're done, we leave. It's not complicated. I'm not going to stick around and watch everyone else work, in fact, when I'm done, I'll go find some other work to do so I can get some more hours. But she just sits there, and won't leave until everyone in our team is finished or until she is told to. And just being watched is fucking creepy.

Well, I am now going to collage, and there is this one person in my classes that must talk about EVERYTHING. He constantly talks, and doesn't stop talking once he starts. He knows a lot, and is a good guy, but he doesn't know when to stop talking. I am sitting there listening to him talk, and he thinks he knows everything (But he does know a good amount), and is usually wrong with what is currently going on in the class.

Now, during my lunch break, sometimes I want to sit alone and just read. Well, he comes over to me and starts talking to me, when I want to be alone. I am not a person that just says "go away!", as I am not some one who can just do that. He does get a bit annoying and talks your ear off and never lets you get a word in. Some times people need to be quiet and let others have their quiet time, especially when you just want to sit down and read while enjoying the weather.

That annoys me too. People coming to talk to me when I'm reading the paper. I've always thought it was so rude to bother someone who is reading unless it's extremely important.

If I'm having a conversation with someone, I like to think of it as a fair exchange of thoughts. You express your opinion, and I listen. Then, when you're finished (judging by verbal & non-verbal cues) I will express my opinion. This is how I like to communicate.

There are some people in my life, however, who seem to think a conversation is a contest.

It doesn't matter that I'm in the middle of a thought, they just seem to interrupt with their oh-so-important piece of information that they just could not wait to share. I'm not a long-winded guy... just let me finish my thought and I promise you'll get your turn.

I have a major peeve right along those lines.

If you see me talking to someone... WAIT YOUR GODDAMNED TURN.

I have no intention of concluding it early, as indicated by my not stopping to talk with you. Don't presume to cut in with whatever random comment you have just because you think I need to hear it. Odds are, it can wait.

I've noticed that, Truece. It seems especially common among younger people, to the point where I'm wondering if the way people communicate is changing more than it's just bad manners.

People might not realize it, but there are actions that people clearly take when they want to take or relinquish the floor in any discussion. It varies across culture and time. A lot of us do them without even realizing it; certain ways we move our hands, small comments (tone of voice in short replies).

I could easily see, within a generation and a half, people start to consider expecting to be able to talk until your thought is finished selfish, as cutting people off becomes more and more the norm.

My husband is the king of interruptions. If I TAKE A BREATH, he takes that as a time to start talking.

<exact conversation that just happened today...>
Me: "So we need to get this stuff done this summer because we can't put it off any longer. I mean really..."
*I take a breath*
Him: "So did you hear about that sink hole downtown today? Man can you imagine being at a stop light and then a sinkhole opens up underneath you?"
Me: "WTF, can you wait until I'm done discussing the repairs with you before you start talking about random shit!?"
Him: "Oh I thought you were done. You stopped so I just figured..."
Me: "Holy shit, I was taking a breath! You do realize I have to BREATHE!?"

Or his other habit, interrupting my conversation on the phone to interject into the conversation....a conversation that he is only hearing ONE HALF OF! Half the time he gets all riled up because he thinks I'm talking about something and he has to get his 2 cents worth in and it ends up not even being what I'm talking about. Sometimes I feel like a teenager again because I have to go in the god damn bathroom and shut the door to even be able to have a private conversation without him butting into it! (Well at least we have cordless phones now. Stretching that friggin phone cord into the bathroom was a god damn art back in the day! lol)

I hate those hands free phones. I look like a jackass because I don't notice these people are on the phone and I'm either trying to talk to them or I think they're trying to talk to me.

My pet peave (as is done frequently by an ex client of ours) was were in a meeting and he answers the phone mid meeting every time it rings, and his phone rings every 5 minutes or so), so your sat their like a plank waiting for him to finish to pick the meeting up again

No, it's just that tons of people misspell "breathe" that way, saying "She stopped to breath" or something like that. If we're going to start with misspellings, though, I'd have to go with defiantly being used to mean definitely.

I drive miy siblings and friends nuts with this.

Of course, I fault them for assuming that I'm talking to them even though I was rambling even as I walked through the door. Taking a moment to observe another's actions pays off well.

And TGM, 'take' is the verb there, although it's technically a compound verb (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Compound_verb), the actual verb word in that sentence is 'take'.
