Aks, that's because they all put the power transformer on the cable. The actual connector to the laptop and the cord itself would be nearly as cheap as any other proprietary cable if not for that.

Then again, the only piece of consumer electronics that doesn't have one that I can think of is the PS3. It's one of the things I really wish everything else would learn from desktop computers, even if it cuts in to their pretty case design.

Pretty sure my speakers are slowly creeping towards an early grave. Or rather one of the speakers' wires is slowly unraveling itself on the inside as it sporadically fades in and out. Technically it still works but it's starting to drive me crazy. This was a fairly expensive speaker system too, but I'm about ready to pitch the damn thing and start crawling on NewEgg to find something more reliable(thing's less than two years old).

Can anyone recommend a good 2.1 speaker/subwoofer combo that doesn't quit after a couple years?

an older version of this. I've had it for at least three years, probably closer to five, no complaints at all; great sound. Price was like $30 when I got them, maybe double, I can't really remember. I do remember I was amazed with what I got for the price, compared to more expensive sets I'd looked at.

You should be able to find some similar speakers damn near anywhere; maybe even an older model on clearance. Wal-Mart and Target are probably where I'd start, actually.

And before anyone asks, yes, this means I have logitech speakers, keyboard, and mouse. I've always been pretty happy with their products; only problem I've got with any of the logitech gear I have now is my trusty old first gen G15, which only needs a new strut to get it back in shape (as it is, I have that side resting on a chunk of eraser, barely noticable unless I'm pounding on the numpad for some reason). Did have a trackball die nearly instantly after I started using it once though, and haven't been very impressed with their headsets. Still, when those are the only complaints you have about a company, that's a pretty good sign.

so I wake up at 2AM, find out I wasn't accepted into a summer program I was trying to get into. Eventually manage to fall back asleep at 7; at one point my eyes hurt badly enough from lack of sleep that I think I might be crying blood.

Get up, rush through lunch and shower to get to a meeting for another program. Get there, wait an hour, nobody shows up.

Eyes hurt again and I'm tired, might lay down but there's no way I'll actually get any sleep.

I believe this qualifies as a shitty day.

Equally shitty day here. A good friend is lying in the hospital slipping away and my niece's water broke but she's having issues giving birth now. We could possibly lose all 3 today. Top if off with 2 1/2 hours of time given to SE to try and get my account straightened out....ya...extremely shitty day.

In regards to the aforementioned power adapter cables for laptops. I don't think we really want the power supplies inside the laptops. More heat means less life for the components inside. What we need are heat resistant components, but computer companies would rather spend their money on stupid shit like this.

Ya saw that over at Overclockers and had a good laugh. I was sucked in to the performance laptop bs a few years ago. $5000 later and I was NOT impressed. Then 3 years after I bought it I had a huge expensive paperweight. Still have it somewhere too...should try to sell it I guess. Maybe I'll get enough out of it to buy something useful like a game. lol
