Re: What's your pet peeve in RL?
I don't feel as though I'm being imature, but I suppose that without tonality, things I say could be misready or misunderstood.
As far as this statement goes, I'll retract the word "demonize" and replace it with "harrass". I suppose it suits the case better since because 99.99% of us are already aware of the things that you point out. I would be equally peeved if I were crossing a street (not on a sidewalk) and someone in the distance shouted, "HEY!!! YOU COULD GET HIT BY A CAR!!! THAT'S UNSAFE!!!! JAYWALKER!!!!!!!!!!!!!" or if I were eating a Cheeseburger and my neighbor shouts over the bushes, "HEY!!! THAT HAS TRANS FAT!!! YOUR ARTERIES ARE IN DANGER!!!".
Crossing a street and being hit by a car could put me in the hospital or in the dirt. Unhealthy eating could cause heart attacks, clogged arteries or stokes. I don't shout at jaywalkers and I don't tell fat people they'll die if they don't eat healthier. All I ask is that people extend me the same courtesy when I'm smoking.
My smoking differs from those examples... I know. Eating unhealthy and jaywalking don't really negatively effect those around you... excluding family. This is why I do eerything in my power to seperate myself from people while I'm smoking. I take other people to mind when I decide to have one. IMHO, if you decide to leap that invisible chalk line on the ground and approach me about my habit... you're being hypocritical and self destructive and warrent no argument.
Let the fat kid eat cake.
Let the jaywalker take his own risks
...
And let me smoke in peace. Especially at work when I only have a short time alloted to me to go have a cigarette and I already waste enough time isolating myself, the last thing I want to do is waste time listening to someone tell me that I'm wrong.
