I can understand some people's revulsion at Vday but if you actually have a partner and hate it, what does that say about your relationship!!? LOL

Problem is no matter what happens, me and whomever I'm with end up having an argument right around V day and it just ruins the whole thing.

Oh, I perfectly understand this. As long as I live by myself, I hardly ever have any connection problems. If anyone ever moves in with me and starts using the internet while I'm playing ffxi, I immediately lose connection and can't reconnect until they get done d/l'ing or surfing or whatever the fk they do. One of the most aggravating things ever, especially since it was back when I was playing 5 nights a week.

Personally I've started to hate holidays, purely on the basis that most of them have become so commercialized that, even if they haven't lost all meaning, they're a goddamn chore.

New years, not so much, but everything else is just hell. Valentine's, all about buying crap to show someone how much you love them (or in many cases, don't-- many schools now require kids to give out valentines to EVERYONE in their class, which is totally pointless). Easter, all about buying candy and chocolate shaped like rabbits. Halloween, all about buying a bunch of crappy plastic suits from the store and calling it a costume. Thanksgiving, all about buying way too much food and having a feast, then getting ready to spend a lot of money. Christmas, spending a lot of money on gifts because that's what people expect.

I'm just tired of it all. There's very little meaning left to any holiday, except new years, and even that is getting annoying.

I'm not talking about 'massive new years party with fireworks and people you don't know' as much as just having some fun and doing a countdown; and maybe writing some resolutions.

I ave to agree Feba, as soon as the christmas stuff int eh supermarkets was taken off the shelves, on Janurary 2nd out came the easter eggs. I think last year Harrods had the earliest christmas set up starting selling things in August for christmas.

Personally they are only as commercialized as we make them. If we keep buying into it then they'll keep making the crap for us to buy. I prefer to make little handmade items for V-day. Even my card to my husband was homemade. I made some cookies for my auntie and mum. Didn't cost me much at all but were absolutely enjoyed. As far as Valentines in school, in the earlier grades my kids did not participate. Later on when my daughter started moaning about it, I told her to make her own and then she could take some to school.

As far as Easter, to me that is a religious holiday and has nothing to do with buying Easter candy. I've colored eggs and hid them and had an egg hunt during our big Easter dinner but thats about it.

Halloween is a day that is highly influenced by kids. That day I cave and buy candy to hand out (MOM!! giving out non candy stuff is LAAAAAAME!! You'll embarass me!!) but costumes are homemade out of crazy stuff....many times stuff that is basically garbage! LOL

Seriously, STOP buying into it! You do not HAVE to do the holidays any certain way nor do you even have to acknowledge them. Be strong in your convictions and firmly explain to anyone that questions you.
