I think this standby thing is unique to this complex. The last place I lived didn't have it and none of my friends' houses do. And yeah, I totally can't wait. I've started looking at places but nothing has quite jumped out at me yet.

I fucking hate my job. I spent the last few weeks rebuilding a server from scratch. I finally got enough of the software installed and properly configured to put it back in the rack with the others. Now I've gone and fucked up the parts that were working while trying to configure another piece of software. I don't even know exactly what it was I did that screwed it up so I can't just go hit "undo".

I'm not qualified to be doing this shit and I wish my boss would stop pretending I know what the hell I'm doing. God I hate this.

My current pet peeve is having pets. Don't get me wrong I love animals, many of my family members have been and are farmers. I have many fond farm memories and would live on one if I could. It's just that when you have animals, they die. I handle people deaths better than I do animal deaths! My dog and cat are getting up there in age. My dog is doing fairly well but you can tell she's slowing way down and has more grey than I do. We believe she's developing cataracts and is losing her hearing too. My cat on the other hand is hanging in there out of sheer will. He weighs less than 8 pounds and is all skin and bones. It's only a matter of time. This weekend I had a panic attack because he was laying so still and even though I called to him, prodded him, etc., he didn't move. My son came running (I was making a racket!) and the cat became animated when he picked him up. He loves that cat so, it's going to kill him when he dies.

Be glad you have AC, in any form. The place I'll be staying at this summer doesn't even have that, the building wiring is too old to allow window units, and we're so awesomely located about 45 minutes in from Lake Michigan - close enough to get the humidity, not close enough to get the lake cooling effect.

I'd take +5 AC over no AC any day this summer.

My room gets ridiculously hot because I have sunlight for at 75% of the day, so I have to keep the air on cool. Also, since I hate my roommates, I never leave my room except to actually leave the apartment and to sometimes cook. So being in my room all day (at least on weekends) makes it very hot in here, and I keep the thermostat set to 73. After about a half an hour with the AC on standby, I'm sweating in my room without even doing anything.

Simple solution: set it to 68 and put up with being over-cooled for a day. Once it bumps it up 5 degrees, the temperature will be where you want it...

I dislike impatient people. I've been browsing Destructoid this week and they've put up several reviews for various games, but not Red Dead Redemption and someone just has to bitch that its not a review for RDR.

If you really cared, you'd have the damn game. Western-themed game by the creators of GTA is all I fucking need to know to want it. Isn't that enough, what's a review score going to do? I don't need scores for things I know I want. I'm not going to buy Mario Galaxy 2 based on a fucking review. Its Mario, all I need to know. Nintendo has never steered me wrong on Mario's platforming adventures.

Man, this new apartment I moved into last year was in a pretty quiet complex up until last week. OK, maybe not that quiet, but the noise hadn't migated in my direction yet. Got some new neighbors and their kids seem to need to expel some energy every other night around 11 pm.

Stomp, stomp, stomp, thump, shriek. laugh, stomp, thump, stomp.

The arrangement kinda sucks because if I stay up late and play video games, I'm not going to get complaints because its pretty much muted against their living room wall. But its my bedroom that's adjacent to their living room wall.

Oh well, at least the other kids usually skateboarding around my car have stopped, probably because after a year of not even being able to flip and land on the board consistently they all just finally gave up. Tony Hawk they are not.

So, the region I work in is going to get flooded with 18-25 year olds soon due to seasonal hiring. Nice to look at, but make me want to punch myself in the face when I hear them speak.

We have kids that do this too. The funny thing is there's a BIG ASS EMPTY parking lot right behind my house. We park on the side of my house and if they went twenty feet, they'd have somewhere they could set up their jumps. But no, they haul boards, planks and pipes INTO THE BUSY ROAD and skateboard away expecting traffic to adapt to them. And, of course, if anyone calls the police on them they will take it out on your yard, car, house, or whatever. The sad thing is, they guess at who reports them so no one knows who'll be vandalized. My sons new car got it most recently. It looked like shakes/malts were poured over it. They tried to get the gas cap off and pour them in his tank but were unsuccessful. The kind of parents that let their kids skateboard in the busy streets, and sometimes at 12 or 1 am too, should have been sterilized at birth.
