I always find it funny in games such as the Mass Effect series. You fight your way through a dungeon to get to the boss and defeat him. When he lays there at your mercy, after he has told you what he knows or given you what you want, you're given the choice to spare his life or slay him. Often, the decision to spare him is the "good" choice while killing him is the "bad" choice, no matter what a wretched person he may be.
More than that, however, you probably killed 30-40 henchmen just to get to him. But somehow just killing that one more is considered a blemish on your integrity.
