I wish somebody had told me I should be writing a family tree as I go along while reading "A Song of Fire and Ice". As I'm reading, I keep having to think in my head:

Stuff

The book is about Eddard/Ned Stark. He and his wife, Caetlynn, have 4 kids. Well...5, if you count the one that isn't Caelynn's kid. One of those kids, Sansa, is promised to marry Jerkface Baratheon, son of Robert Baratheon who served alongside Eddard in some coup to dethrone the previous ruling family, the Targaryens. The two remaining Targaryens are located somewhere across the sea, planning to marry into a powerful Dothraki family. The Baratheons know about this because there is a spy serving the Targaryeons, but Eddard is not too fond of the spy because the spy also happened to sell slaves while representing the Starks. Robert is married to Cersei Lannister (who happens to be getting it on with her twin brother, Jaime...not sleazy in the slightest!). Cersei also has another brother named Tyrion, who has dwarfism and, thus far, is like the only likeable character in this whole tale. Well...maybe that Stark kid, Arya, too. And Jon Snow. He's definitely sympathetic.

I imagine it only gets worse from here on, so I better start writing that family tree, huh....

There's a map at the beginning of every book and a family tree at the back.

I sometimes refer to them, yes. Luckily, I've played the Game of Thrones board game before, so at least the geography of region was easy to pick up.

But, my God, all these intertwining stories about incest, and rival families, and illegitimate children. It is a soap opera.

It really is. But it's on HBO, so it's a soap opera with curse words, boobs, and butts, and even some full frontal male.

So I go to the 7-11 to buy dinner. Now, I'm used to cashiers putting their hand under mine when they give my change back.

I'm not used to them grabbing and caressing my hand as they give me my change.

Not sure if peeve or just confused.

Also, should be a fairly major protest in front of the Presidential Building tomorrow, so look forward to western media ignoring that.

You know that character you really like? Don't get too attached to them.

That shouldn't be a problem. Precious few of them are wholely likable. Although, for now, Jon Snow is the top contender. Not the least of which because his chapters actually have something to do with The Others.

Eddard Stark too, but I hear I better not get too attached for long. I've come to grips too with the fact spoilers for this series are unavoidable since it is watched so ubiquitously; it practically ought to be considered common knowledge.

Just got to the part of the first book where everything goes to hell, all because of that petty whiner, Sansa.

I can't even say that I like her so much as I like her slightly more than I did earlier in the series. I don't think she's going to ever be a good person, especially the more she gets stuck hanging around Kings Landing, but she matured some from the first season to the third (I'm still on the first book though lol), and I appreciated that.

I also really just love Hodor, that guy is a hoot.

Oh, and the red wedding left me in a huge state of shock, even though my coworker and my boyfriend both warned me about it. They just told me, "Wait until you see the red wedding!" without telling me what I was going to see and I was just like ... what the fuck ...

One of my older brothers died on the 4th. We think it was suicide. My younger brother has had myofascial pain syndrome for a few years, received cortisone shots in his back, and this resulted in steroid psychosis. That led to bipolar disorder. Now his life is upside down, and he talks every day about suicide. We're working on finding the right medications, but his back is still a problem, and he seems incapable of seeing past it all. It's been an emotional few months, and I'm starting to feel apathetic. Once I realize I'm feeling apathetic, I feel guilty, because I should care. I don't know what to do.
