Watching Bar Rescue and this woman is working at the bar as her part time job. As a second job. And they’re getting mad at her because she doesn’t want to say three hours late (probably without pay) when she has to get back up and go to her first job in the morning, maybe also raise a family and/or go to school and no one in the bar seems to think this is an unreasonable request?

Newsflash, a part-time bartending job isn’t really gonna be a high priority for someone. Yeah, to the OWNER it’s his life, but not to your fucking part-time employee with an actual full-time job, and how dare you act like she’s out of line for saying that she’s not “committed” enough to your shitty bar. I mean really?

Sorry but that is the most unreasonable request I’ve heard in a long time. I mean how dare she work a secondary part time job to make ends meet and try to get some sleep so she can get to her primary job, right?

Yeah, I was just looking over Sen. Bernie Sanders' budget proposal and while I knew the inequality has gotten obscene, well, the figures just made it all the more horrifying.

I'm not even sure that's it, if you have college or any prior experience a lot of fast food places wont hire you because you're overqualified and they feel like you're just going to jump out and get another job at the first chance, even though that's what a lot of fast food workers end up doing anyway. I've heard of a lot of people who had some prior experience in other fields not even being able to get hired at like Walmart because they didn't want to hire people who are skilled/educated and could get another job.

Not saying that's Malacite's situation. I would recommend going through an agency. That's how I got this job, and while it has its flaws, they're flexible with my school schedule and it took me about 8 days of not working to get the job.

Alternatively, I know a place down here that's always hiring but assuming you would/could move down here (work visas and other shit notwithstanding), it's a terrible place to work and I wouldn't recommend that shit to anyone, truth be told.

Well, gonna talk to my cousin who's been working for the city for a while now and see where that goes.

Really annoying truth be told given I was last working for the govt. but ain't gotten shit since... I was lead to believe that was a major plus around here -so much for that.

Just move to the oil fields; sleep in your car until you can find a place. Take any job that's open, but keep looking--ruthlessly move to a better paid job every other month if you can.

Don't blow all the money on the vices, don't carry too much cash so you don't lose too much when you get robbed, etc. After two-three year or C$ 50k in savings or some other goal met, find a new job elsewhere (unless you like the place).

I think he means that having a prior government job on his resume should have made his job hunt easier. That's how I read it though.

If I'm honest I got the current Government job I have through copious amounts of "Being in the right place at the right time", a fuckton of "Sheer dumb luck with a last possible minute application" and "being able to make the panel interviewing my laugh their asses off for most of the interview so they liked me enough to want to hire me".

I'm sure part of it was due to my qualifications, experience and being willing to bust my arse with two full years of charity volunteering but luck played a far bigger factor in it than I would like to admit.

No one on these forums will agree with me, but I stand by the notion that there are jobs out there for you. It's just whether or not your willing to do them. It might not be the kind of job you want, but it is a job.

I swear to god it is all luck in getting a job, unless you know someone who already works there and that person isn't a shithead and/or is part of the hiring process. The fact that you know "Jim from Accounting" doesn't really help you as much as you'd think.

And this whole job disparity that has come up lately has been a major part of the reason why I want to go into teaching. No matter what people say/think, teaching jobs aren't really going anywhere, plus I can teach anywhere on the planet.
