Its not bad enough Firewind, we'll have to send them Jed Ward
Kill it with fire
Firewind: It's not just Sherlock, we love Doctor Who as well. They even simulcast the Day of the Doctor special.
It would take unheard of regime changes on both sides of the pond to break up the friendship of our two countries.
As for the guns in America thing: I actually agreed with Bill Maher when he talked about how we're basically a country founded on guns. The right wants to keep guns, the left wants to keep guns. That will unlikely every change. The biggest absurdity of all the gun laws they've tried to pass (and some states have gotten through) is making some guns illegal because of cosmetics. A guy in New York made an AR that would be completely legal to sell in NY and has all the mechanical functionality of a traditional AR.

It's basically a self-fulfilling prophecy. We create our own problems and then insist the solution is to throw more money at them to make them go away by employing the same tactics that created them in the first place.
I'm about ready to throw my glasses right in the garbage. Over two fucking months of going round and round with the doctors trying to figure out what I need to put in front of my face and why all of them make my eyes feel like they're about to start bleeding.
We don't have much to be afraid of so long as we can whip out the a-bombs. Assured mutual destruction.
I'm of the opinion that we really don't need to worry about another country trying to use nukes. Governments (however stupid they may be) aren't dumb enough to give into the urge and bring about an assured mass extinction. Politicians are too into self preservation for that. I'm worried about the crazy mother fucker that just doesn't care and will kill himself blowing one up to ignite something larger. I'm not worried about Iran itself having nukes, even when Ahmadineajakadkadeadd was in power, even he wasn't crazy enough to use them. I'm worried that there's so much corruption that it wouldn't take much for the Taliban or whoever to get ahold of weapons grade plutonium. Of course, I could be completely wrong. Iran could end up with a security force at their enrichment sites that would put ours to shame. It would be nice if they'd never been invented, but here we are. Though we were doing a pretty bang up job of killing each other long before we ever even dreamt of nukes.

I need my immunization records to enroll in classes at this university. That's a new one, one I've never heard of. So now I'm on the phone with my mom while she looks through the house to see if she has them.
They don't want all those students on campus spreading plague. It's probably them covering their asses from lawsuits or something, but that was pretty standard back when I was enrolling...fuck, has it been nine years already?
I've been to three other schools and this is the first one it's even come up. I mean christ's sake, I was in the military and I went to Kuwait, I promise you I got stuck with a needle more times than I ever cared to in my life. Fuck the anthrax shot, man, that shit hurt.
I just figured that's kind of weird, especially since I have no plans to live on campus.
Seeing that photo just made me think about how utterly useless our our PMs are - bunch of useless leeches the lot of them. You know you only need to get elected twice to gain a 5-figure pension that you can draw upon as early as 50? How crooked is that?!
Oh, but we have to make cuts to Environment Canada, because you know, who needs clean air and water.
As for the whole 2nd amendment thing: Americans realize that if it came down to it (and I don't see it ever happening precisely because it's a volunteer army who'd be killing their own friends & family), they'd be up against well-trained professionals who are infinitely better armed right? Your shitty little remmington won't do you much good against a thermobaric bomb dropped by a jet. As much as I would love to see an armed angry mob lynch all of Wallstreet and assholes like the Koch Brothers, they'd be out of the country before things got underway anyhow. Still, I think about how FDR had people hauled off to jail for refusing to help with the war effort and wonder if the govt can't do something similar again, i.e. Freeze these dickbags' assets, stick 'em on the no-fly list and haul 'em before the judiciary committee.
It'd be a nice start. of course most of congress itself would have to be held on trial too rofl ><
At the moment though, my current peeve (and it's trivial in comparison to the real shit affecting all of us) is I can't go and see Miyazaki's final movie this Friday with the one person I really want to
Could be worse, Aks. In order to get a resident visa here, you need to have a full medical exam and certification that you're not going to bring in any terrible diseases OR burden the social medical system. For countries they like (Europe, America, Japan, etc.) this means a physical, blood tests to confirm your immunization record, X-Rays, and looking at you up and down in your underwear to check for skin lesions. For less fortunate countries, this also includes having to poop on command, and putting said poop in a jar for doctors to look at.
Come to think of it, the school had urine tests during the orientation process as well. The best part is that it was apparently run by the medical college, which means the people there were other students, and the people collecting the urine samples were, let's say, less than professional. Also, if you think going to the dentist is unpleasant, try it when there's a line of six people behind you, watching the dentist pry your mouth open and make notes. Oh, and more blood tests. They took a decent amount; three or four vials. A couple of the tiny girls were laying down on benches trying not to pass out.
