Don't get me wrong there's some good subreddits out there. The FFXIV one isn't horrible but does seem quite elitist and insular. But go onto r/gaming and look at how many pages of pointless memes and toxic flaming you have to sift through before getting to something that has a point.

Tumblr is definitely dumb but when I'm looking for mindless entertainment (or something to stave off the boredom at work), it fits the bill perfectly.

They post too much anime crap in there (sorry, I know a lot of you like it, but I really don't). At least on Tumblr I can choose to follow/unfollow crap I do/don't want to see.

So scroll past it. The majority of what's posted in there is stuff other than anime crap and a lot of it is really interesting.

Oh I do still check the thread, I just prefer going someplace where I can see pictures that entertain me without seeing the ones that don't.

We really should. It only makes everything unnecessarily complicated and is generally bad for everyone.

Technically, gaining the lost hour back isn't the problem. It's losing the hour in the first place.

I dunno. Write your representatives I guess? I'd imagine that at this point, DST is universally loathed enough for that to actually work.

I'd love to write my representative, but he died like two weeks ago and the replacement election hasn't yet taken place.

(Fun fact: His funeral procession passed by me as I was waiting to make a left to get to class. Wasn't expecting it, kind of cool to see.)

Generally speaking, I'm in favor of the entire world switching over to UTC already, with business times depending on the locality.

I'm not totally sure how things work, but all of China shares a single time zone. Apparently some localities will have a "local time" as well, but the entire country follows the one standard. Russia has also been working to reduce the number of time zones. It would be fairly simple for the US to simply select CST or MST as a standard time, and for the coasts to adjust their schedules. Say you work a 9-5 job in New York; now you work 7-3 and nothing else has really changed. Maybe you feel super proud of yourself for waking up at 5AM, even though it's the same real time.

Living in Japan and Taiwan, it becomes pretty obvious that sunrises and sunsets are both much 'earlier' here than they should be. Even in the summer, it's sundown around 6~7PM... in Kansas, I've seen sunset well after 9, even 10. Even accounting for DST, it becomes pretty clear that the time zones are set somewhat differently from what I'm used to in the states. Still, it doesn't really affect daily life.

I mainly like it because its nice that the sun is barely setting when I get off work in the summer. That and on the odd occasion I stay up way too late in the summer, the sun isn't up before I fall asleep.
