I know, it's probably borderline racism, who really knows anymore, but why do 99% of you include some dumb nickname? It takes me a few reads before I realize that nobody actually named them TwoShot, RandomlyClueless, or NinjaOfLove. Is it because they're actually known by that name and think somebody might search Facebook for that particular nickname? It bugs me on many levels.

I have my nickname right in with my real name on facebook. I put it in instead of a middle name.

My mother is really beginning to piss me off about my work with mentally retarded people.

Me: "Yeah, Larry just does contract work, so he doesn't make much money.'
Mom: "Those people can work?!"

Me: "Had to set an appointment for John to see the doctor."
Mom: "Oh yeah! I forgot they can get sick too."

SMH at mom. We have special ed co-op students working with us sometimes. We have one group that comes over to the building to get toners to recycle them, and another girl that comes over to do shredding and sorting. We've never had any problems with them as they are all very nice, intelligent, and hard workers.

Sixty (or so) years ago they were probably saying the same thing about blacks. It's just a cycle of ignorance.

That kind of talk really bugs me, too. Unfortunately you can't really do anything about it because a lot of these people never really get it.

The problem is, people with medical conditions will probably always have a harder time, given that they're never going to be integrated into society as there simply aren't that many of them. Racism seems silly to most people now because we know enough people of other races to know better. Places where there are fewer people of a given community, discrimination tends to be higher. But the best case scenario is medical technology reducing the number of people with mental issues, thus making those with it even rarer and probably more discriminated against.

Ya my mother is 78 and boy some of the shit that comes out of her mouth....

Honestly its f**king embarrassing. She's a bigot. She doesn't like black people, latinos, asians, mentally handicapped, gay, polish people, irish people, etc. So when you are out and about with her, if she would see something she speaks up...and loudly. We were out at dinner and a gay couple was sitting in a both, both on the same side, and she kept looking at them making huffing noises. (I've laid down the law with her about this shit so she watches what she says more with me than with my other sisters.) But if finally got to her and she said very loudly, "Jeez thats disgusting! I didn't pay to watch 2 men make out. Who knows what they are doing with their hands under that table!" And yes, they heard it. I got up and went to their table and apologized, of course.

But this carries through to my entire extended family too. My kids can't stand family events because of it. Good lord if you all could meet my cousin Brian....you'd rip him to shreds.
